Here are our five best mid lane champions for carrying games and climbing the League of Legends solo queue ranked ladder on Patch 10.6!

Mid lane remains one of the most influential roles in League of Legends on Patch 10.6 with complete access to the map and a wealth of strong champions to choose from. Four days into the new patch, we’ve compiled a list of the 5 best mid lane champions in the current meta:

5) Vladimir

50.56% Win Rate | 6.9% Pick Rate | 18.9% Ban Rate

The strongest team fighter on this list has to be Vladimir. Although he might struggle early on, once the Crimson Reaper has a few items under his belt (Hextech Protobelt, Sorcerer’s Shoes, Rabadon’s Deathcap) he’s capable of one-shotting an entire enemy backline if he finds the right angle for a flank.

However, in order to reach the late game without falling too far behind, it’s essential that you learn where and when to use Sanguine Pool to avoid engages and escape ganks. Due to the ability’s incredibly high cooldown (28 seconds at rank 1), it’s vital to save it for key crowd control or until the very last second to avoid losing your life during the early game.

4) Kassadin

51.25% Win Rate | 7.0% Pick Rate | 26.7% Ban Rate

If Vladimir’s scaling isn’t enough for you, there’s only one option left in the mid lane: Kassadin.

In the same way as you must be patient and wait until you hit an item power spike with Vladimir, you must be patient and wait for a level power spike with Kassadin. Once you reach Level 11, you can participate in team fights and deal huge damage with Riftwalk. Once you reach Level 16, your ultimate is so powerful it’s basically game over.

3) Fizz

51.76% Win Rate | 6.8% Pick Rate | 13.4% Ban Rate

Surprisingly, Fizz remains a hugely successful pick in solo queue, illustrating that ranked players still don’t know how to deal with the Tidal Trickster in Season 10.

If you’re facing him, don’t let him find easy kills from which to snowball in the early stages of the game, then lock him down with crowd control after he’s used Playful Trickster in team fights.

If you’re playing as Fizz, look for vulnerable squishy targets during a rotation or farming on their own. The best way to win games is to quickly push out the mid wave, then roam down to bot lane, throw out Chum the Waters, and grab two easy kills.

2) Diana

51.99% Win Rate | 9.0% Pick Rate | 21.0% Ban Rate

Diana’s win rate and popularity has sky-rocketed since her rework earlier in the year. She’s both an incredible assassin and offers excellent utility in team fights with Lunar Rush and Moonfall.

Before hopping into solo queue and trying her out, it would be wise to head into the practice tool and work on a few combos until they become second nature. The key is to time Crescent Strike perfectly with other abilities to ensure you get the reset for Lunar Rush.

1) Katarina

52.86% Win Rate | 8.4% Pick Rate | 10.8% Ban Rate

It could be argued that there’s no better champion in League of Legends to snowball a lead and single-handedly win games than Katarina. In the right hands she can easily pick up 1v1 kills in the mid lane, but for less experienced players the most efficient way to build a gold lead is to roam bot and prey on unsuspecting ADCs and supports.

When team fighting, it’s vital to pay attention to the enemy team’s cooldowns and find the perfect time to Shunpo in and activate Death Lotus without being silenced or CC’d by your opponents. Picking up a single kill or assist allows Katarina to reset her abilities to either escape damage or continue bursting down opponents for a quick team fight win. Choose wisely!
