Here are the 5 best mid laners on Patch 10.9 for carrying games and climbing the League of Legends ranked solo queue ladder!

The mid lane is the most influential role in League of Legends as it is a stone’s throw away from every lane and major objective on Summoner’s Rift. Therefore, it is vital that when you’re playing mid, you lock in the best mid laners available, both on Patch 10.9 and in any meta.

For a one-off change, instead of describing the champion and how they get the better of their mid lane counterparts, we’ll be doing a mini-guide for each champion. This includes rune pages, skill order, and important items to purchase!

5) Ekko

51.40% Win Rate | 6.1% Pick Rate | 17.7% Ban Rate

Rune Page
Ekko runs best with Electrocute and Sudden Impact as he can quickly jump onto his target with Phase Dive to proc his keystone with a burst of magic penetration to boost the damage output. As for the rest of the page, run Eyeball Collection, Ravenous Hunter, Absolute Focus, and Gathering Storm.

Skill Order
Max Q – Timewinder first for wave clear and 1v1 damage, followed by E – Phase Dive to improve Ekko’s mobility within skirmishes. Finally, throw your remaining levels into W – Parallel Convergence as the rank 1 shield and cooldown are sufficient for an entire game.

Essential Items
The Boy Who Shattered Time has three essential items: Sorcerer’s Shoes, Hextech Protobelt, and Lich Bane. The rest is up to you, but it would be wise to consider Rabadon’s Deathcap, Zhonya’s Hourglass, and Void Staff to maximize Ekko’s AP figure.

4) Katarina

50.87% Win Rate | 7.8% Pick Rate | 9.8% Ban Rate

Rune Page
Domination was the go-to keystone for Katarina players in the past, but now it’s Conqueror as it provides excellent damage and healing during extended trades. Combine this with Triumph, Legend: Tenacity, Coup de Grace, Sudden Impact, and Ravenous Hunter for the perfect rune page.

Skill Order
You’ll want to pour your levels into Q – Bouncing Blade during the laning phase as it’s the best ability for poking your lane opponent, clearing the minion wave, and setting up trades. Follow this with E – Shunpo for greater mobility, then W – Preparation.

Essential Items
Start off with Hextech Gunblade to slow your opponents and set them up for some quick burst damage. Continue your build with Sorcerer’s Shoes, an Oblivion Orb, Zhonya’s Hourglass, and Rabadon’s Deathcap for a high AP number and unparalleled DPS during team fights.

3) Fizz

51.80% Win Rate | 8.0% Pick Rate | 29.9% Ban Rate

Rune Page
The Tidal Trickster loves Electrocute as proc’ing the keystone is as easy as 1-2-3. Complete the rune page with Sudden Impact, Eyeball Collection, Ravenous Hunter, Triumph, and Coup de Grace.

Skill Order
E – Playful Trickster sees its cooldown decreased and damage increased after being leveled up, making it the perfect ability to max first to increase Fizz’s slippery nature and high burst damage. Next, level up W – Seastone Trident for even greater damage output. And finally, Q – Urchin Strike.

Essential Items
Fizz’s build is extremely similar to Ekko’s as they both want to do the same thing: Kill a target quickly and escape. Therefore, your inventory should include a Hextech Protobelt, Sorcerer’s Shoes, Lich Bane, Zhonya’s Hourglass, Rabadon’s Deathcap, and Void Staff.

2) Diana

52.53% Win Rate | 8.9% Pick Rate | 19.2% Ban Rate

Rune Page
Diana is a mid laner that is always involved in extended trades with her lane opponent as they both tussle for priority on the map. As a result, Conqueror is Diana’s preferred keystone, followed by Triumph, Legend: Tenacity, Coup de Grace, Taste of Blood, and Ravenous Hunter.

Skill Order
During the laning phase, Diana wants to out-farm, out-poke, and out-damage her opponent, so Q – Crescent Strike should be leveled first as it aids with all three. W – Pale Cascade is next due to the fact that E – Lunar Rush doesn’t really benefit too much from being leveled up.

Essential Items
Diana’s build is one of the most unique in League of Legends as she profits from ability power and attack speed. To achieve both, she builds Rod of Ages, Sorcerer’s Shoes, and Nashor’s Tooth early on, followed by Zhonya’s Hourglass, Rabadon’s Deathcap, and Void Staff.

1) Yasuo

50.63% Win Rate | 13.1% Pick Rate | 49.2% Ban Rate

Rune Page
The first and only AD champion on this list is Yasuo. However, that hasn’t made much difference in terms of the rune pages. The Unforgiven wants to take Conqueror (for extended trades), Triumph, Legend: Alacrity, Coup de Grace, Taste of Blood, and Ravenous Hunter.

Skill Order
This one is fairly obvious. Q – Steel Tempest is by far Yasuo’s most important ability and needs to be maxed first in all situations. Then, level up E – Sweeping Blade for increased mobility when navigating through minion waves and team fights. Finally, put points into W – Wind Wall because you can’t put them anywhere else.

Essential Items
Being one of the most popular champions in League of Legends, Yasuo’s item build is incredibly recognizable. He starts with Berserker’s Greaves for increased attack and movement speed, then grabs a Phantom Dancer and Infinity Edge for 100% crit strike. After this, there are a plethora of options, but the best ones are Death’s Dance, Guardian Angel, and Mortal Reminder.
