This is a Legends of Runeterra guide explaining the mana costs, power, health, spells, and level up conditions of all five Freljord champions.

Legends of Runeterra is Riot Games’ digital card game that shares the same universe as League of Legends, which means you’ll see some familiar faces from the seven regions of Runeterra during your LoR journey. This is a breakdown of the basics of the five Freljord champions and how they function in game.

The Freljord is an icy tundra inhabited by scattered, independent tribes of warriors determined to band together and persevere through the difficult and unforgiving conditions. Outsiders view those from the Freljord as savages and uncivilized as their raiding culture spreads cross Valoran, the northern continent of Runeterra. Now, the previously fractured tribes have formed an Avarosan alliance, following Queen Ashe in search of a peaceful future for the Freljord.

Unsurprisingly, the champions from Runeterra’s frozen region primarily utilize the Frostbite mechanic in Legends of Runeterra. Frostbite sets a champion’s power to 0 for the duration of the round meaning they can’t attack or deal damage when blocking.

These are the five Freljord champions available in Legends of Runeterra:

Anivia

Anivia
In terms of stats, you really don’t get much for the 7 mana cost of Anivia. At 2 power and 4 health, the Cryophoenix initially looks like a low tier card, that is until you read further.

First of all, every time Anivia attacks she will deal 1 damage to all enemies on the board and the enemy Nexus, the perfect ability to clear out low-health or injured units. Anivia also revives upon death, transforming into Eggnivia, which could potentially lead to an infinitely respawning unit if your opponent has no way to deal with the Egg.

Level Up
To gain +1|+1 stats on Anivia, you simply have to have 10 maximum mana, the perfect late game card. After reaching level 2, Anivia will deal 2 damage to all enemies and the enemy Nexus when attacking, rather than the previous 2. She also keeps her Last Breath condition, once again reviving and transforming into Eggnivia upon death.

Anivia’s Harsh Winds
Anivia’s champion spell is Harsh Winds, a burst spell that allows the user to Frostbite 2 enemies, setting their power to 0 for the duration of the round. This spell could be vital when you have few defenders on the board and are vulnerable to high Nexus damage.

Glacial Storm
Whenever Anivia attacks, she deals 1 or 2 damage to all enemy units and the enemy Nexus. Glacial Storm is the name of that skill, much like her League of Legends ultimate.

Eggnivia
Despite what her 0|2 stats may suggest, Eggnivia is the most powerful aspect of Anivia’s kit. On her own, the Cryophoenix is a strong champion, with the ability to revive, she’s overpowered. Unless your opponent has a way to destroy your Eggnivia card, Anivia will end the game for you in the late stages.

Ashe

Ashe
Spending 4 mana will allow you to summon Ashe, the Frost Archer, a 5 power, 3 health unit with the ability to Frostbite the strongest enemy when she attacks, reducing their power to 0. This can be used to take down strong enemy units without incurring incoming damage yourself.

Level Up
To reach Level 2, Ashe must witness her team Frostbite 5+ enemies, at which point she’ll gain +1|+1 stats and a Crystal Arrow will be created at the top of the deck. After reaching level 2, enemies with 0 power can no longer block your attacks, which is huge if you have several Frostbite options in your deck.

Ashe’s Flash Freeze
Speaking of Frostbiting, Ashe’s champion spell is Flash Freeze, a burst spell that instantly Frostbites an enemy of your choosing. This spell is great on defense as you can reduce the power of a threatening enemy unit to 0.

Crystal Arrow
For 2 mana, you get a lot with Crystal Arrow. Although it’s a slow spell, when it is cast it will Frostbite your chosen enemy as well as any other enemy with 3 or less health. This spell is perfect for the early rounds.

Braum

Braum
Get Braum out on the board early and your Nexus will never be under threat as he can tank up to 4 damage and regenerate it all back between rounds. The Heart of the Freljord also has Challenger, allowing him to soak up some blocking damage while his teammates have free reign over the board.

Level Up
To level up Braum, you just have to survive 10 total damage, which is incredibly easy with Regeneration. At that point, he’ll gain +0|+2 stats creating an even beefier tank unit and will also summon a Mighty Poro whenever he takes damage. Braum is a monster against low-cost, rush decks as he can soak up small amounts of damage and fill the board with his Poro pals.

Braum’s Take Heart
Take Heart is Braum’s champion spell. The burst spell grants any damaged ally +3|+3 for just 3 mana which could create some scary units during the early game.

Mighty Poro
Braum’s Poro pal is the Mighty Poro, a 3|3 unit with Overwhelm. Use these cards to dispatch of any low health enemy cards, dealing some damage to the opponent’s Nexus in the process.

Sejuani

Sejuani
Overwhelm might not seem too strong with 5 power and 6 health, but when you combine this with Sejuani’s ability to give an enemy Frostbite and Vulnerable when played and she becomes a much more powerful unit. Use this to target the enemy Nexus, while also taking out low health enemies without return damage.

Level Up
In order to level up Sejuani, you have to damage the enemy Nexus in 5 different rounds, which could take some time. However, for doing this Sej will receive a +1|+1 boost and will Frostbite all enemies if you damage the enemy Nexus in a round. This could be game-changing but relies on you having easy access to the enemy Nexus, which could require some creative spell usage.

Sejuani’s Fury Of The North
Sejuani’s champion spell is Fury of the North, a burst spell that gives any ally +4|+4 for 1 round. Use this spell on Sejuani (or other Overwhelm unit) for some huge Nexus damage or to take down some troublesome, high health enemy units.

Tryndamere

Tryndamere
Tryndamere is the second Freljord champion that utilizes the Overwhelm mechanic, but with 8|4 stats, which could be lethal if used correctly.

Level Up
The Barbarian King retains Overwhelm when he levels up, which happens if he receives lethal damage. Rather than dying, Tryndamere reaches level 2, gains +1|+5 stats, and becomes Fearsome (can only be blocked by units with 3 or more power). This is one of the strongest late game cards in Legends of Runeterra and should be a win condition for your Freljord based deck.

Tryndamere’s Battle Fury
Battle Fury grants an ally +8|+4 and is Tryndamere’s champion spell. This huge increase in stats is offset by the huge 8 mana cost, which means you should be intelligent about which unit you use the spell on. However, if used correctly, this could be a key avenue to victory for your team.
