League of Legends: Top 5 Removed Items Riot Should Bring Back
By Josh Tyler
Here are five removed items that should come back to League of Legends.
3. Atma’s Impaler
Stats: 45 armor, 15% critical strike
Build path: Chain Vest + Avarice Blade
Total cost: 2300g
What it did: Gain attack damage equal to 1.5% of your maximum health.
Why it should come back: Bruisers are in a bit of a weird spot in the top lane, with most building one damage item, like Black Cleaver or Trinity Force, before going full tank. This means that these fighters spike hard at their first item, but have no way of scaling later into the game.
Atma’s Impaler provided that, but the problem that got it removed was that it never really had a strong identity. It scaled off health but didn’t give you any, and it gave crit chance for some reason. I think there’s a world where this item could be a greedy buy for fighters that want to continue scaling into the late game.
What would have to change: The build path would have to change, obviously, since Avarice Blade is another of the removed items not on this list. I would make the build path Chain Vest plus Pickaxe plus a Ruby Crystal. it would grant armor, some health, and some AD.
This would also mean that the cost would have to go up, but it would also mean that the item would require three components. This means the item is awkward to build later in the game, when you have fewer item slots, so it would be a bit riskier for players to build since they would likely have to sit on a lot of gold before they could complete the item. That would give Riot some wiggle room to increase the scaling (I’d start with 2.5% health to damage scaling).
Because this would count as bonus health, this would make it great in combination with Trinity Force. It would also work well for Black Cleaver users who want to play more of a tanky role, since Cleaver gives more overall health than Tri Force.
