League of Legends: Everything You Need to Know About Spirit Bonds

League of Legends will debut Spirit Bonds in the upcoming Spirit Blossom event

League of Legends has announced the introduction of Spirit Bonds ahead of the Spirit Blossom event that will run from July 22 – August 24. Spirit Bonds is League of Legends’ own “mini visual novel” allowing players to meet champions (or spirits) and earn their favor through time spent on the Rift.

A series of tweets by the official League of Legends Twitter has offered some more information about Spirit Bonds and how players can use the event to claim rewards:

• Meet mysterious spirits and uncover their stories
• Complete missions to earn favor with each spirit
• Level up to unlock Blue Essence, event tokens, and exclusive icons
• Earn more tokens from story missions with the Spirit Blossom Event Pass
• Strengthen your bond to unlock challenging bonus missions for a rare reward: the spirit’s emote

While there is still much to be revealed about how the system works, what champions will be involved, and what sort of rewards are available, it can be assumed that this system will replace the usual “Choose a Side” system used in previous League of Legends events.

Throughout the event, it’s likely that players will be asked to pick a “spirit” or complete missions relating to that spirit in order to gain some Blue Essence and further their story. In a similar fashion to previous events, Spirit Blossom will also encourage players to purchase an Event Pass to hurry their progress along and earn rewards faster.

Although it remains to be seen how successful Spirit Bonds will be, there’s no doubt that this is a creative and innovative upgrade to the increasingly bland event missions of the last few months. Not only will players be able to purchase incredibly high-quality Spirit Blossom skins, but they will also be able to enjoy a story involving their favorite champion and earn rewards while doing it.

Six Spirit Blossom skins will be released over the course of the Spirit Blossom event and will create a brand new skin line for League of Legends.
