LCS Summer 2020 Week 8 Power Rankings: It Comes Down to This

LCS Summer 2020 Week 8 is in the books, here is where the teams sit in our  LCS power rankings.

5. Golden Guardians (9-7)

Elo: 389 (+29)

Remaining schedule: TSM, Evil Geniuses
Average elo of remaining opponents: 396

When I said last week that it was going to be hard for Golden Guardians to solidify a spot in the upper bracket, I, unfortunately, did not account for both Cloud9 and Evil Geniuses completely imploding during Week 8. Their loss is Golden Guardians’ gain, as they have locked themselves into the upper bracket following a 2-0 week.

There’s not much they can do to affect their position next week, as they’re two games out of the second seed (which would give them a first-round bye). That said, if GGS go 2-0 and both TSM and C9 go 0-2 next week they could force a three-way tiebreaker for that first-round bye depending on what FlyQuest manages to do.

So it’s not impossible for Golden Guardians to get that first-round bye. But it’s also not probable.

4. FlyQuest (10-6)

Elo: 415 (+15)

Remaining schedule: CLG, Immortals
Average elo of remaining opponents: 290

FlyQuest may be ranked low in our power rankings, but they are sitting in perhaps the best position of anyone outside of Team Liquid following Week 8. Not only do they have the easiest schedule of any team in the LCS for Week 9, but they also own the tiebreaker over the stronger-looking of the teams ahead of them in the standings (TSM).

Now, they would lose out in a tiebreaker to C9, so if Cloud9 manages to right the ship and pick up one win next week FlyQuest would be locked out of the first-round bye. But given how poorly C9 has shown lately, there’s a good chance that FlyQuest end Summer 2020 one game ahead of the team most assumed were the runaway favorites coming into the split. I fully expect that FlyQuest will win both games next week and will have an excellent shot at one of those first-round byes.
