Are Evil Geniuses the best team to pick up Licorice?

2. Evil Geniuses

Last spring it was clear the only thing holding back the most exciting new team in the LCS from being a true contender was their top lane situation. Their starter going into the year, Kumo’s flaws as a young player were holding Evil Geniuses from having a legitimate shot at an LCS title. The acquisition of Huni between splits signaled this team is looking for the former Fnatic/SKT top laner to be their NA resident carry top laner in 2020.

However, the Licorice situation changes things.

Firstly Licorice is a North American player and is almost universally regarded as a better player than Huni. There is also the existing synergy with Svenskeren and Zeyzal from their time in Cloud9 together. Evil Geniuses also has not been shy about their willingness to spend money in order to compete, not unlike Team Liquid.

While it would be hard to imagine EG has no interest in Licorice, if Cloud9’s asking price for Licorice is too high #LiveEvil will most likely be forced to pass on the top laner. The idea of Evil Geniuses signing 3/5ths of the 2018 C9 semi-final team with Bang and another star mid laner (*cough* Chovy *cough*) Evil Geniuses would certainly be at the 2021 World Championship at a minimum.
