This is a list of the 5 best top laners in League of Legends on Patch 10.22

Tanks, bruisers, mages, assassins. Top lane has it all. The best top laners in League of Legends know how to utilize their champion pool to have an impact on both their own lane and the entire map through all stages of the game.

The Patch 10.22 notes saw two top lane champions receive changes. First, Lulu’s brief spell of dominance in the role could come to an end after her Glitterlance base damage was significantly reduced. On the other hand, Nasus may be set for a return to the top lane following a Fury of the Sands buff that will see his bonus resistances increased on cast.

Here are the 5 best top laners on Patch 10.22 along with their skill order, key runes, and essential items:

5) Jax

50.50% Win Rate | 7.8% Pick Rate | 10.1% Ban Rate

Jax epitomizes everything it means to be a top laner in Season 10. The Grandmaster at Arms can get the better of his lane opponent during the early game, impact a teamfight by diving on the enemy backline, and split-push effectively thanks to his excellent scaling.

When piloting the champion, take full advantage of the range of Q – Leap Strike by regularly threatening an early game duel. If used correctly, this can force your lane opponent to give up lane control and miss out on crucial CS, forcing him into an early deficit.

Runes: Conqueror + Inspiration
Skill Order: W > E > Q
Essential Items: Blade of the Ruined King, Trinity Force, Death’s Dance

4) Shen

51.65% Win Rate | 8.8% Pick Rate | 5.5% Ban Rate

For those that believe that a top laner’s job is to impact other areas of the map as often as possible, Shen is the perfect champion to lock-in. Not only can the Eye of Twilight duel aggressively in lane, but he can also seek out opportunities to cast R – Stand United and give his team a numbers advantage on the bottom half of the map.

However, the most effective ability in Shen’s kit may actually be his W – Spirit’s Refuge. This ability allows Shen to block all incoming basic attacks in an area for 1.75 seconds which could be key in neutralizing an enemy marksman during a teamfight.

Runes: Grasp of the Undying + Domination
Skill Order: Q > E > W
Essential Items: Titanic Hydra, Sunfire Cape, Spirit Visage

3) Malphite

51.57% Win Rate | 7.5% Pick Rate | 7.6% Ban Rate

Malphite’s playstyle is predictable but incredibly effective in the right hands. Tanks are rarely seen in the top lane nowadays making the Shard of the Monolith’s appearance in the S tier all the more surprising.

The only tip that aspiring Malphite players need is to master the use of his R – Unstoppable Force. Initially, the ultimate should be used as a zoning tool to set up a strong teamfight position. Then, it is your job to engage the squishiest members of the enemy team, giving your teammates plenty of time to follow up.

Runes: Arcane Comet + Inspiration
Skill Order: Q > E > W
Essential Items: Sunfire Cape, Iceborn Gauntlet, Thornmail

2) Fiora

51.67% Win Rate | 7.8% Pick Rate | 12.0% Ban Rate

Fiora is a mechanical monster capable of outplaying even the best top laners in League of Legends. With enough experience under your belt, Fiora could become a pick capable of single-handedly carrying any ranked game.

Obviously, your Fiora proficiency is entirely dependent on how well you use her W – Riposte. This ability can turn the tide of any duel and is vital in getting the better of your lane opponent and pushing an advantage.

Runes: Conqueror + Inspiration
Skill Order: Q > E > W
Essential Items: Ravenous Hydra, Trinity Force, Death’s Dance

1) Darius

51.00% Win Rate | 7.0% Pick Rate | 36.7% Ban Rate

Darius’ place at the peak of the top lane tier list has been untouchable since the season began in January. The Hand of Noxus is simply unstoppable in lane, in skirmishes, and during late game teamfights.

The secret to playing with or against Darius is to manage his Passive – Hemorrhage stacks and focusing on the amount of DPS it is providing during a fight.

Runes: Conqueror + Sorcery
Skill Order: Q > E > W
Essential Items: Trinity Force, Sterak’s Gage, Spirit Visage
