We break down which LCS players were the best laners in 2020 to help inform how they might do in 2021.

Support

Philippe “Vulcan” Laflamme

Shocking, I know to see another Cloud9 member on the list of the best laners, but yes, Vulcan led all supports in AGXD last year. At +521, he was nearly 200 gold and experience ahead of the next-closest support in the league last year. What else needs to be said?

Well, for starters, like his lane partner Vulcan was often put in a position to win lane. He had a 68.5% expected win rate from his lane given the matchup and dominated on playmaking supports. His AGXD on Nautilus was +666 and on Thresh it was a ridiculous +915!

Erik “Treatz” Wessén

In his limited time on TSM’s starting roster, Treatz made a name for himself and should have earned himself a spot back on their main roster. His AGXD of +327 was actually second-best in the LCS for supports.

Now, TSM did put him in great spots to carry with 75% of his games being in favorable lanes that he was expected to win, but Treatz still did outperform expectations. Among his best picks on the year were Braum (+448 AGXD), Nautilus (+121 AGXD), and Rakan (+207 AGXD). With his solid laning performance, TSM fans will probably bemoan the fact that he didn’t get a single game at Worlds.

Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam

While both Huhi (+280 AGXD) and CoreJJ (+150 AGXD) beat Zeyzal out in terms of laning, both of them were, like Vulcan and Treatz, most often placed in favorable lane matchups. Zeyzal is the only support in the LCS who was more often than not placed into a losing lane matchup and able to outperform expectations, with a +142 AGXD.

While Zeyzal wasn’t exceptionally good on the weak-side supports like Tahm Kench, he was probably the best Yuumi player in the LCS last year, posting a +973 AGXD on the Magical Cat. He also showed that he can be a strong Thresh (+441) and Nautilus (+244) player when he was put into favorable matchups.
