LCS 2021: Ranking Every Single Starting LCS Jungler
By Josh Tyler
6. Can “Closer” Çelik (100 Thieves)
Closer finished his first season in North America as a consensus top-three jungler with Golden Guardians. Now, having moved on to 100 Thieves with most of the rest of the GGS lineup, he is expected to be one of the biggest playmakers on this new, energized lineup.
However, there are a few major flaws to Closer’s game that seem to go unnoticed by most fans and observers, primarily with his champion pool. Closer played the fewest unique junglers (13) in 2020 and posted elite performances on none of them.
The good news is that Closer did keep that champion pool fairly balanced, playing five champions at least 5 times last year. Still, Closer had one of the smallest champion pools of LCS junglers in 2020.
Another big issue is that Closer was horrible in terms of his damage output. His -39.9 EDD is in spite of the fact that Closer played a lot of low-damage junglers like Lee Sin and Jarvan. Even in those games, where he was expected to have a low damage output, he still underperformed expectations.
And, when he played high damage champions like Nidalee and Graves, his damage outputs were even worse than on the low damage champions. In short, it’s not a matter of him being more comfortable on one type of champion versus another, he just underperformed across the board.
On the positive side, Closer was among the leaders in gold per minute last year, had a positive MAGXD @ 15 (meaning he outperformed his matchups early), and an above-average aKDA. Closer isn’t that bad a player based on our modeling, but he hasn’t yet shown enough to be considered among the elites going into 2021.
