League of Legends: Viego and the Champions Revealed During the Season 11 Livestream
By Josh Tyler
League of Legends is getting new champions in Season 11 including Viego, the Ruined King.
During the League of Legends Season 11 kickoff livestream, Riot dropped some massive bombs on its player base with plans for the new champions arriving this year. We got some insight into four new champions that will be coming in 2021, but the biggest announcement, without question, was the reveal of the next new champion Viego, the Ruined King.
Not only did we get an awesome cinematic showcasing Viego and his power, but we also got to see some gameplay clips of the Ruined King wielding his blade. Riot also revealed that three other new champions, who will drop this year, are going to be tied to Viego as part of a developing storyline that was first kicked off by the cinematic.
Viego
We got a look at the next champion on the livestream in both cinematic and a small gameplay clip. Surprise, surprise, but with the announcement of him getting featured in Riot’s first independent game, Viego, the Ruined King himself will be coming to Summoner’s Rift this month.
Viego is billed as a jungler who wields his melee sword as he ganks. It looks like he has some form of a dash and an ability to copy an enemy he kills, using their abilities. We’ll be excited to keep on the lookout for Viego hitting PBE soon.
AP Fighter
Riot also alluded to the fact that an AP fighter who is “tailor-made” for top lane and “snipping” a piece of the meta in the livestream. This came accompanied by a shadowy cloak with a needle and thread.
This almost makes me think of the Mantis Lords from Hollow Knight, who can slash out and stab with their thin, needly swords. I’ll be excited to see what this champion ends up looking like. This champion will also tie into Viego’s return, but it’s unclear where their loyalties lie.
Artillery Mage
The next champion teased was a “gloomy” artillery mage who preferred that we don’t bother her at all. This champion appears to have a disdain for skillshots (so I’m assuming she doesn’t have any and/or is very immobile) and is also a Yordle! This makes the first Yordle champion since Yuumi in 2019. Apparently, though, she’s thrilled to be away from the bright Bandle City, so I’m guessing this champion will be dark and suck the life from others perhaps.
Marksman
There will also be a third champion tied to the Ruined King’s return, a marksman. We didn’t get much other information other than the fact that she will be played in a non-traditional role like Senna. This makes me think potentially top lane, since we already have a jungle (Kindred) and support (Senna) marksman and mid lane already has plenty of marksmen in the role.
