The team with the ability to pull off random upsets out of seemingly nowhere, SK Gaming finishes the split in 8th, three games ahead of their next competitor. This team has the least amount of hype in it, not from a playstyle perspective, but simply from a narrative perspective. Even well-known players like Gilius and Treatz do not have the same sort of magnetism they did back a few years ago.

Treatz especially looks like a fly on the wall; gone are his days of Jarvan supports and blindingly fast engages on top of unsuspecting teams from weird angles. He looks like a generic support player now, which is a marked downgrade from his explosive style just a few splits ago. Jenax is also much of the same. His impact and contribution is definitely felt throughout the game, but he does not seem to have a very high ceiling, and as a result, isn’t good for much other than the odd upset or a pocket Sett or Aatrox pick.

The biggest surprise of this SK Gaming has definitely got to be Sertuss, who picks up BlogOfLegends Rookie of the Split for his standout performance in his debut months as a professional player. He does not get the hype he deserves, mostly because of his laid-back champion pool and lack of a firebrand personality, but the 20 year old German mid laner is quite capable of putting a game on his back, even at such a young career age. Aside from the Corki and Viktor that dominated this split’s meta, he has shown a marked proficiency in his assassin champions like Akali, meaning there might be more fireworks from him if the meta ever shifts that direction. With his champion pool as well as his cool poise in games, I am hopeful that SK Gaming find a way to build around what looks to be a mainstay franchise player.
