G2 continue their undefeated streak with an upset win over T1. Evil Geniuses lose to RNG and are now 0-5 against major region teams at MSI 2022.

G2 vs T1

G2 continue their undefeated streak by taking down the tournament favorites in T1 in riveting fashion. T1’s mid game centric Twisted Fate comp was not able to accelerate to early leads hard enough to offset G2’s superior teamfighting with Diana/Yasuo, and G2 simply made the comeback with exemplary teamfighting. While I was very impressed with G2’s mechanics and quick decision making in these hectic fights, I cannot help but think how unnatural these teamfights must be for T1 on (hopefully) 35 ping. Nevertheless, it was an excellent showing by G2 and I am excited to see if they can continue it against RNG later today.

EG vs RNG

Evil Geniuses got beatdown for the entirety of the game but managed to survive until the Elder Dragon in order to threaten the Elder flip and make the miracle comeback, but were ultimately stopped in their tracks by RNG. We saw the same draft adaption as in the G2 v T1 game, with the Diana/Yasuo counterpick coming into the early Twisted Fate. However in this game, the Chinese champions simply looked heads and shoulders better than their North American counterparts in both teamfights and map play, and Evil Geniuses found themselves getting out-team fought all throughout this game. For a team that was lauded for their teamfighting back home, Evil Geniuses are getting a taste of what real teamfighting mechanics look like against both G2 and RNG as they fall to 0-5 against major region teams so far. At this rate I remain skeptical if EG can ever take a single game from a major region at MSI 2022, but hey, they are at least making it somewhat close.
