League of Legends has been around for over a decade now, as Riot Games continues to see wins. Is League of Legends shutting down this year, or anytime soon?

League of Legends Shutting Down

Riot Games’ most popular video game, and one of the most popular video games in the world, is NOT shutting down in 2024, or anytime soon.

While there will always be some controversy surrounding the state of the game, League of Legends is still a wildly popular game, with no signs of slowing down to the point of Riot Games shutting their premiere MOBA down.

While Riot does not publicly release their statistics in regards to player count and revenue earned for LoL, the third-party estimates will make anyone realize League of Legends shutting down would be a mistake from Riot.

According to Activeplayer.io’s research on player-base and revenue in LoL, we see League of Legends made an estimated $1.8 billion in 2022. League continues to print money for Riot.

Incredibly, League of Legends is still growing since 2019. Activeplayer.io estimates LoL’s player-base to be ~110 million in May 2019. Continuing, their player count in April 2023 approaches ~150 million.

Riot Games Uptrend

Riot Games continues to be on the uptrend, with the amount of hype behind their upcoming titles. The fan-dubbed “Riot MMO” is the most excited people have been for an MMO without seeing a single frame, and the upcoming Project L fighting game has a lot of support behind it already.

With these two games waiting in the wings to be very likely big hits, (especially the MMO) League of Legends shutting down is nowhere near the realm of possibility given the company’s trajectory.

While many may be frustrated with League and want it shut down – take a break from playing – your mental will appreciate it!
