It’s a hotly contested topic as to which region is the best in all of League of Legends. Worlds is the top time to prove that your region is the best. So, during the World Championships, I’m going to keep a bit of a tally to see which region wins the top region prize. The tally will include the record from each round, the overall tournament record for a region, and if teams are eliminated during the Swiss round and fail to make it to the knockout stage.

LEC

Number of teams in the Swiss round: 4

Number of teams eliminated: 0

Round one record:1-3

Overall record:1-3

G2 scored a big win over Dplus KIA to open their Worlds run. Fnatic, Mad Lions, and BDS all dropped into the 0-1 pool. To me, it feels like they are underperforming a little bit as a region, but yet I’m also not surprised they have a 1-3 record at this point.

LCS

Number of teams in the Swiss round: 3

Number of teams eliminated: 0

Round one record:1-2

Overall record: 1-2

The LCS performed as expected. Cloud9 picked up a win, while NRG and Team Liquid fell in their opening bouts.

LPL

Number of teams in the Swiss round: 4

Number of teams eliminated: 0

Round one record: 4-0

Overall record:4-0

The LPL looked sharp on day one of Worlds picking up all four wins. They are the only team to go undefeated on the day and look like the early favorite for best region.

LCK

Number of teams in the Swiss round: 4

Number of teams eliminated: 0

Round one record:2-2

Overall record: 2-2

T1 and Gen.G took care of business in their opening Worlds matchups.  Dplus KIA and KT Rolster fell in their opening contests to put the LCK record to 2-2. A bit surprising to see them with a lower record, but they aren’t the worst region of day one.

VN

Number of teams in the Swiss round: 1

Number of teams eliminated: 0

Round one record: 0-1

Overall record: 0-1

Not much of a surprise with this record. Gam was overmatched by Gen.G and lost as expected.

After day one it’s the LPL leading, with the LCK in second place. The race for the best region at Worlds 2023 is off to a good start!
