Get The Right Items and USE THEM

Do you know what one of the most annoying things a support player can do to their own team is?

Not getting support items.

Look, support is the role that almost always gets no love. As a support you setup the big plays, but don’t get the kills.

When there isn’t enough vision on the map, you can often find yourself on the other end of being lectured about how there needs to be more wards.

And when you save your teammates from a death that they more than likely deserved, you probably won’t get any thanks.

Support is a selfless position, but do you know what’s not selfless? Building certain supports (Annie, Sona) like you’re playing in the middle lane.

Support players need to focus on items that help their team (Face of the Mountain, Randuin’s Omen, Locket of the Iron Solari). These types of items can help keep teammates alive and help you out in lane.

If for some reason, you feel the need to build more offensive items, these should come AFTER you’ve built supporting items and, of course, a sightstone.

Items are important and, as a support player, you need to make sure you’re building the right ones. Of course, you can always take it to the next level and build corresponding support items based on what your team needs reduced damage from (Does the enemy team have heavy magic damage? Locket of the Iron Solari might be the first major item you finish), but for new players, you should first get used to support items and how they work.

Remember, you need to be selfless, not selfish. And just make sure that when you do build the right items, you remember to USE THEM. Building support items just to have them fill up an item slot doesn’t fully utilize them or your role.
