League of Legends: LEC Predictions Week 4 Day 2
Origen vs. Rogue
A clash between a team vying for 3rd and a team vying for 6th isn’t going to produce the most exciting spectacle but could be an interesting battle. Origen are a roster that are underperforming since their LEC final appearance in the Spring Split, while Rogue have improved tenfold and are one win away from topping their number of victories from the first half of the season.
Friday saw Origen struggle against 10th place Excel Esports almost causing a huge upset. While Origen have never been known to excel in the early game, it came as a huge surprise when their opponents completely dominated them in the first 25 minutes yesterday. In fact, if it weren’t for XL’s failure to close the game out, Origen would have been handed their 4th loss of the split and could say goodbye to a top two place in the regular season.
Rogue faced Schalke 04 on Day 1 and were outclassed from the first minute. While Spring’s 10th place team have definitely improved during the mid-season break, they still aren’t capable of picking up wins against the top teams and that was clear once again in yesterday’s loss to S04. From the early game all the way to late, Rogue look slightly inexperienced when it comes to shotcalling and teamfighting, and often find themselves falling behind due to poor decision making. As a result, Origen should pick this one up rather easily as they’re known for their ability to pick apart lesser teams methodically and slowly close out a victory, which Rogue should be unable to contend with.
Prediction – Origen Win
Schalke 04 vs. G2 Esports
2nd place vs. 4th place. A 2018 EU regional final rematch. And destined to be another excellent game between two of the best teams in Europe at the moment.
Schalke shut down Rogue in convincing fashion on Friday, winning teamfights and intelligently taking objectives across the map from very early on. Upset picked up the Player of the Game award but it was a team effort from a team that is incredibly clean when it comes to facing lesser sides in the LEC.
On the other hand, G2 did G2 things against Misfits yesterday as Caps put on a show on Renekton mid and won the game before six minutes. The issue with G2 Esports is you can never tell when they’re trolling or struggling but let’s hand them the benefit of the doubt and say the last 15 minutes was just Perkz and co having fun and playing with their food.
All in all, Schalke are a top team and have the potential to go to Worlds in 2019 but are no match for G2 Esports at the moment and would have to have an incredible early game to take down the defending LEC champions.
Prediction – G2 Esports Win
Fnatic vs. Splyce
The real Match of the Week between 1st and 3rd. Fnatic look unstoppable at present, but today they face the late game monsters Splyce who will provide a tough match-up for the 7-0 roster. Splyce’s win against SK Gaming on Day 1 was about as clean as it gets, which can be said about almost every Splyce win. They take a small advantage in the early game through Xerxe and slowly build it into objective after objective after objective until they destroy the enemy’s Nexus.
Other than G2, Splyce are the biggest threat to Fnatic right now and will offer a challenge to the LEC’s number one team. But Fnatic once again showed their incredible talent in a win against Team Vitality yesterday. Once again, Broxah and Hylissang were everywhere and showcased their early game excellence in a complete destruction of VIT.
In today’s game, expect Splyce to play extremely defensive in the first 10 minutes as they try to weather the Fnatic storm. If they can reach the 15 minute mark even or ahead, Splyce can win the game due to their intelligence and organisation in the mid-late game. However, I can’t see Fnatic reaching the mid-game without a few kills under their belt and they can easily snowball their lead from there, pushing on to win the game. It will be an incredible fight, but it would be no surprise if Fnatic come out on top today.
Prediction – Fnatic Win
