Excel Esports vs. G2 Esports

10th vs. 1st. David vs. Goliath. Excel vs. G2. Following a week of shock results and upsets, surely this match has all the makings of the biggest upset of the LEC season? Not really.

G2 Esports have shown time and time again that they’re happy to “troll” and throw away a few games in order to keep a balanced mental and have fun during their time on stage, as proven by their slip-ups towards the back end of Spring and Rift Rivals. However, when they’re in such a tight battle for 1st place against Fnatic, don’t expect them to let up off the gas so easily.

Excel are a competent early game team and have shored up their late game shotcalling in recent weeks, but unfortunately they’re still no match for G2 Esports and should instead look towards future weeks to build momentum and break into the playoff positions. This should be another simple victory for Caps and co.

Prediction: G2 Esports Win

Rogue vs. Fnatic

The greatest upset of Week 4 came at the hands of Rogue as they took down Spring Split runners-up Origen and climbed into the playoff places. Mid-jungle duo Inspired and Larssen have created a fearsome Rogue roster that look worlds apart from their Spring line-up.

Fnatic also took part in an upset in Week 4, but unlike Rogue, they were on the receiving end of the surprise result. Splyce broke down Fnatic through a strong early game and great late game teamfights and decisions to hand them their first loss of the season and level the playing field between the top three. No doubt Fnatic will come back stronger than ever in order to make amends, but with the substitution of Rekkles for MagiFelix, some question marks remain over the seven-time European champions.

It’s a match-up that has all the makings of an intense, exciting battle. Rogue are filled with optimism after Week 4 and could climb as high as 4th with a win over their opponents. But, Fnatic are in a heated title race and need a result here in order to keep up with the defending LEC champions, G2. Ultimately it’ll boil down to whether MagiFelix slots into the team well and can continue Fnatic’s hard work. If he and Nemesis can adapt to their new roles, expect Fnatic to walk away with the victory.

Prediction: Fnatic Win

SK Gaming vs. Origen

While both of these rosters look destined to secure a place in the playoffs thanks to their terrific displays so far in the Summer Split, they aren’t immune to the odd poor performance and unexpected result. SK Gaming have only secured three wins so far and have lost to the likes of Vitality and Excel proving that they may not be set up for a playoff challenge just yet. On the other hand, Origen were expected to continue their excellent showings from the Spring Split but have disappointed and currently sit 3 wins from 1st place.

There’s no doubt that Origen are the better team on paper and should take the win, but it depends if they’ve recovered from their Week 4 failures. Rift Rivals unquestionable played its part in the team’s fatigue and lack of preparation, but to not show up against Spring’s 9th and 10th placed teams is worrying.

Overall, Origen need to bounce back or risk missing out on a place at Worlds as Splyce take the initiative. With the senior members littered around the roster, they’ll surely be able to regain their mental fortitude heading into Week 5 and regain some of the form they showed in the first half of the season, starting with a win against SK.

Prediction: Origen Win
