League of Legends: LEC Predictions Week 5 Day 1
Another week, another set of LEC fixtures. We’ll soon find out who the best League of Legends teams in Europe are as the season draws to a close, but who will come out on top in Week 5’s first set of games?
Week 4 saw a number of shock results with the likes of Fnatic and Origen dropping important games, while Excel picked up their first win of the Summer Split. The LEC split into two halves, a top three and a bottom seven, but could all that be undone in Week 5 as the ten battle it out again for important playoff places.

Splyce vs. G2 Esports will undoubtedly be the most highly anticipated game of the weekend as viewers get excited by the prospect of Splyce taking down a member of the top two for the second week in a row. But, as for Friday, the best of the action could be found in a mid-table clash between SK Gaming and Origen. All in all, the five games on offer on W5D1 will be thrilling and could begin to shape the standings heading into the second half of the split.
Misfits Gaming v Splyce
If you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll have missed the news that Misfits Gaming will be starting their entire academy roster for their match-up against Splyce on Friday. Combine that with the fact that Splyce have just taken down one of Europe’s best teams and have seated themselves nicely in third place, it would be a huge surprise if Splyce don’t take the win with relative ease.
With the average LEC viewer completely unaware of how strong the new Misfits will be, expect to see a number of #SPYWIN predictions heading into Day 1. If Splyce stick to their game plan and methodically dissect their opponents, it should be a comprehensive victory for Europe’s 3rd place team.
Prediction: Splyce Win
Team Vitality vs. Schalke 04
These two teams are separated by a single win in the table, but their seasons couldn’t be summarised more differently. Vitality started slow and looked to challenge Excel for the 10th place position, but after Week 4 look like a revitalised squad and set to challenge for the playoff positions. Schalke, on the other hand, have had an impressive start to the Summer Split with clean victories against some tough opposition and are very likely to secure a spot in the top six.
When it comes to predicting the result here, it boils down to early game vs. late game. If Vitality can somehow create a lead against the very solid, defensive early game that Schalke are capable of producing, then they’ll be in with a strong chance of securing a victory. However, if S04 can hold the fort and make it to the mid game with a gold advantage, then it should be plain sailing from there.
Schalke have shown their strength in all stages of the game against much better opposition than Vitality in recent weeks, so it’s expected that they’ll nail down their fifth win of the split on Friday.
Prediction: Schalke 04 Win
