Origen vs. Team Vitality

W5D1 Results:
SK Gaming 0 – 1 Origen
Team Vitality 0 – 1 Schalke 04

LEC viewers received a brief glimpse of the intelligent, methodical, late game machine from the Spring Split on Friday as Origen’s worrying last two weeks were tossed aside with a (relatively) clean win against SK Gaming. Vitality’s woes continued as their mid-split recovery was short-lived and they seem to have returned to their questionable form from earlier in Summer.

This has the potential to be a close affair as Origen look to slowly build a gold lead in the early game and Vitality will be hoping to shut them down by playing aggressive early on trying to snowball. But, as with every Vitality game, it boils down to whether they can avoid inting. With the likes of Nukeduck, Alphari, and even Kold regularly picking up solo kills in the early game, there is a worry that this game could spiral out of VIT’s control before the 15-minute mark.

Origen simply have too much quality and too much to lose to let a game like this slip and they’ll be at their best to ensure they don’t lose ground with the top three. Vitality have looked a lot stronger recently, but realistically should be no match for the LEC Spring Split runners-up.

Prediction: Origen Win

SK Gaming vs. Fnatic

W5D1 Results:
SK Gaming 0 – 1 Origen
Rogue 1 – 0 Fnatic

SK’s season has fallen apart since their excellent start to the Summer Split. Initially they looked like the front-runners to claim the highest playoff seed below Fnatic and G2, but now they’ve fallen apart and will be battling for 5th/6th with the likes of Rogue, Schalke, and Vitality.

Surprisingly, Fnatic’s mid-season roster change failed and they lost a second game in a row for the first time since Spring Week 2. Questions have to be asked about the thinking behind substituting Rekkles out for a mid laner despite only losing 1 game all split, especially when it backfired so spectacularly in their loss against Rogue.

You’d expect Fnatic to bounce back, but with their last two performances and questionable decision making, you really can’t tell at the moment. Fortunately they’re matched with an SK team that are floundering at the moment and are showing no signs of recovery. If they were facing anyone else, Fnatic probably lose this game. But…

Prediction: Fnatic Win

Splyce vs. G2 Esports

W5D1 Results:
Misfits Gaming 0 – 1 Splyce
Excel Esports 0 – 1 G2 Esports

It’s about time G2 were pegged down a notch isn’t it? It’s no secret that the G2 roster don’t take LEC regular season games completely seriously and have even been known to int in the odd best-of-5 game, so nobody throws their arms up when G2 miss out on a single victory against an impressive Splyce team.

By no means are Splyce incapable of beating G2 on their day, but unfortunately whenever the defending LEC champions drop a game, viewers are quick to jump to their defence by claiming “they weren’t even trying”. And to be fair, they’re probably right.

Instead of G2 Esports using this as an opportunity to test themselves against a top European team, we can expect them to continue doing G2 things by picking crazy champions and hoping they stick. And once again, they probably will.

But, there’s a chance that Splyce take the victory and find themselves at the peak of the table alongside G2 Esports at the end of Week 5 due to their excellent control of games and intelligent objective play shown time and time again throughout their six-game unbeaten run in the Summer Split. Xerxe will relish the challenge of facing off against EU’s best jungler and trying to best him early on to guide Splyce into the mid game unscathed, then using Splyce’s incredible teamwork to build a gold lead and take control of the map.

Undoubtedly, G2 are favourites for this one. But if their opponents can slow the game down early on and play to their strengths, they’re in with a fantastic chance of taking both the win and a position at the top of the table. With Splyce’s current form and G2’s tendency to collapse in the occasional LEC game, can we really write them off? I don’t think so.

Prediction: Splyce Win
