The first round robin of the LEC is complete and G2 Esports once again lead the pack. Week 5 Day 2 represents the start of the second half of the split and the opportunity for teams to nail down the all-important playoff places before the season closes. So, who will take victory on the first day of the second round robin?

Roster changes bad, G2 Esports good. That’s all you need to summarise the first day of games in Week 5 as G2 Esports reclaimed their place at the top of the table due to Fnatic’s substitution gamble backfiring. There were also wins for Origen and Schalke against weaker opposition, while Splyce took down the new-look, inexperienced Misfits Gaming roster in convincing fashion.

Week 5 Day 2 could be the catalyst for the standings to finally take shape. As it stands, every LEC team still has a realistic chance of qualifying for the Summer Split playoffs, and it’s about time that changed. By the end of Saturday’s fixtures we could have a two-win gap between 6th and 7th and three teams tied at 1st, or the standings could be tighter than ever. To find out which is the more likely outcome, here are our LEC predictions for the Week 5 Day 2.

Excel Esports vs. Schalke 04

W5D1 Results:
Excel Esports 0 – 1 G2 Esports
Team Vitality 0 – 1 Schalke 04

Excel were utterly dismantled, demolished, and left dismayed by G2 Esports in a game that had more kills than minutes played as the LEC’s 10th place team were completely outmatched across the map. On the other hand, Schalke impressively halted a Vitality roster that were looking to build momentum following a 3-1 Week 3+4 and deservedly moved into 5th place.

When it comes to Saturday’s match-up between these two sides, it’s all dependent on Excel Esports’ early pressure and if Schalke can weather the storm of Caedrel and Mickey’s early game presence. Throughout the last 3-4 weeks, Excel have continuously showcased an ability to build an early lead through Caedrel’s proactivity towards the bottom half of the map, and Schalke will need to shut this down if they’re to come out on top.

Although they’re near the bottom of the pile in terms of LEC junglers in the Summer Split, Caedrel vs. Trick is the match-up to watch in this game. Trick must track the Excel jungler’s tricks in the early game to keep Schalke in control and head into the mid game without a gold deficit. It’s expected that due to the difference in relative skill between the individual members of both teams, Schalke will be allowed to reach the 15/20 minute mark with a gold lead and thus can close it out as cleanly as they’ve shown plenty of times this split.

Prediction: Schalke 04 Win

Misfits Gaming vs. Rogue

W5D1 Results:
Misfits Gaming 0 – 1 Splyce
Rogue 1 – 0 Fnatic

It came as a huge shock to everybody when Misfits Gaming substituted in an entire academy roster and proceeded to get cleanly put aside by Splyce on Friday, who would have thought that this roster change would backfire? Meanwhile, Rogue benefitted from roster changes themselves as they defeated Fnatic’s new iteration in a shock result.

Ultimately this isn’t a hard prediction and even the most casual of LEC fan will be able to accurately pinpoint the likely winner of Saturday’s match-up. Rogue followed up their Week 4 win over Origen with a Week 5 win over Fnatic and confidence could not be higher, whereas this Misfits line-up is playing their second game on the LEC stage. It would come as no surprise if Rogue wiped the floor with the rookies to join Origen and Schalke in 4th place.

Prediction: Rogue Win
