Fnatic vs. Misfits Gaming

There really is not much to say about this one. Despite Misfits Gaming’s new-look roster impressing on their debut weekend on the LEC stage, they really shouldn’t be competing with the teams in this division. While there are upsets aplenty in the LEC at the moment, we shouldn’t expect this to be another one.

This Misfits roster is undoubtedly a talented team, but lack of experience against the top sides should mean they won’t be able to cope with the aggression from Broxah or roaming from Hylissang early on, allowing Fnatic to snowball the game out of their hands in a one-sided affair.

Prediction: Fnatic Win

Team Vitality vs. Splyce

It’s impossible to predict where this Team Vitality side will pick up wins, not only due to their unexpected play style, but also the unexpected nature of whether they’ll perform or int. Week 5 provided both a taste of what Vitality can achieve this split, and also what they’re capable of producing when they turn their brains off as they swept Origen aside but were completely dismantled by Schalke 04.

On the other hand, Splyce are one of the biggest surprises of the Summer Split. Formerly dubbed the “4th place team”, Splyce were always capable of beating the teams below them, but struggled against the best teams in the league, resulting in them narrowly missing out on Worlds qualification year after year. The times are a changing though, as the late-game kings seem to have finally perfected their game plan and look set to secure 3rd place and challenge Fnatic and G2 for the LEC crown in September.

This clash can simply be decided by looking at the gold disparity at 15 minutes. If Team Vitality do not have a large gold lead heading into the mid game, they can say goodbye to any chance of a win in Friday’s match-up. Splyce are incredible at dragging games out and finding victory through intelligent late game shotcalling and teamfighting, all set up by an extremely clean early game. If Mowgli can get the better of Xerxe, sure Vitality can win, but how likely is that to happen with Xerxe in top form?

Prediction: Splyce Win

G2 Esports vs. Origen

The LEC Match of the Week is a Spring Split playoff final rematch between the two strongest teams heading into Summer, however only one lived up to the lofty expectations set after a successful start to 2019. G2 Esports have continued to impress and dominate the competition in the LEC, but Origen have fallen flat and have failed to find their former flair, floundering in the middle of the pack.

It is no longer a case of whether teams can beat G2, but rather will G2 let themselves be defeated. It’s a long regular season, and the G2 Esports players are bored easily, as demonstrated by their multiple slip-ups at the back-end of Spring. But with Origen determined to recapture their incredible performances from the first half of the season, perhaps this is the perfect time to upset the apple cart and pick up a much needed win.

As previously mentioned, this would be due to intelligent Origen play punishing G2’s greed and over-confidence. Expect the likes of Caps and Wunder to attempt to outplay their opponents and occasionally lose out, offering Origen the opportunity to build a gold lead and slowly close out the game, much like they did throughout spring. While unlikely, there is a small chance that Origen could find their 6th win of the Summer Split on W6D1.

Prediction: Origen Win
