Another week of League of Legends action awaits in the LEC and with the season’s close fast approaching, the stakes are higher than ever. Who will pick up vital wins in Week 6 and climb up the standings?

Last week provided a tonne of exciting games, a bunch of roster swaps, and several upsets. Will Week 6 live up to the loft standards set by Week 5?

More from League of Legends

With just eight games until the standings are locked in before playoffs, teams will be desperate to get all-important wins on the board. This weekend we have a Spring Split final rematch, a 9th vs. 10th thriller, and multiple opportunities for teams to open up gaps between themselves and the teams around them. But who will come out on top in the five matches from Day 1? Here are our predictions:

Upset, Schalke 04, LEC, League of Legends.

Schalke 04 vs. SK Gaming

The first game of day one is a derby between two German organisations. Last time these teams faced off, SK Gaming took victory, but since then they’ve only won twice and are currently struggling in a five-game losing streak. Meanwhile, Schalke have gone from strength to strength and have won four of their last five games.

Despite the gap in the standings, these squads have a very similar play style – use early jungle presence to eke out small advantages across the map and then win through teamfighting in the mid game. Schalke’s Trick and SK’s Selfmade are key to their team’s success, but only one of these junglers have provided the necessary utility to rise up the standings, as shown by Schalke’s climb to fourth place in recent weeks.

Ultimately, unless SK have had a huge turnaround in scrims this week and have suddenly fixed all of their early game problems, then this should be a comprehensive win for Schalke 04. S04 are deservedly in fourth place and look set to push Splyce for the third spot at Worlds, whereas SK would be lucky to make the top six at this rate.

Prediction: Schalke 04 Win

Rogue vs. Excel Esports

All logic points towards a Rogue victory on Friday. All logic points towards Excel failing to pick up another win in the remainder of the Summer Split. But, judging by Excel’s fantastic early game performances of recent resulting in only one win, we can throw all logic out the window for this one.

Reduce it down to this: How do Rogue win their games? Through Inspired’s complete control of the jungle early on and ability to snowball his laners through ganks, particularly on his signature Olaf. But, who is Excel’s best player? Caedrel. The British jungler has been one of the best early game performers in the LEC during the last three weeks and has somehow managed to drag an underperforming Excel roster to a gold lead at 15 minutes in half of their games.

It’s a game that will be decided in the jungle, it’s just about which way it will go. 90% of fans will say Inspired will, once again, carry Rogue to a win. But Caedrel’s recent impressive form is hard to ignore, and he could well guide his team to their second win of the split on Day 1.

Prediction: Excel Esports Win
