New Additions

Annie
Miss Fortune
Malphite

All of these champions have been fairly off-meta throughout their run as supports and all of them have been off our tier lists for quite a while now. For instance, Malphite hasn’t been on our support tier list since Patch 9.1, while Miss Fortune has only been on our tier list once in that time span and Annie was on it four times. These are three champions that are unviable in the support role, period.

Having said that, there are some reasons for these three entering back into the tier list. For Malphite, his win rate in the support role rose by almost 1.5% over the last patch (while his pick rate has been increasing).

Annie got buffed in 9.18, with movement speed and extra damage reduction being added to her E – Molten Shield. Similarly, Miss Fortune got the slow on her E – Make it Rain buffed this patch. Both of these buffs gave the two niche picks a nice boost and let them back into the support tier list for now.

New subtractions

Poppy

Poppy graced the support tier list for four straight patches after getting buffs in back-to-back patches starting in 9.14. Unfortunately, her time in the sun of the support tier list has ended with her never even sniffing the D tier during her time on our tier list.

Rising Champions

Janna (A+ to S tier)
Morgana (A to A+ tier)
Leona (A to A+ tier)
Lulu (B to B+ tier)
Karma (C to B tier)

Observations

I’m sure that many people will be thrilled to see such a high-skill support like Janna is among the role’s best champions at the moment. This is her first time in the S tier all season, despite the fact she’s consistently had a top-five win rate all year (it’s currently fourth at 52.3%).

Morgana has are-entered the A+ tier after a few patches languishing in the A tier. Her win rate did jump up by 0.6% and considering she’s mainly been between S and A tier I think she’ll stay in this spot for a bit.

Ever since her buffs in Patch 9.13, all Leona has done is climb up our tier list, now hitting the A+ tier for the first time this season. Considering she has the second-best win rate of all supports at 53%, it’s no surprise that most sites rate her so highly.

Lulu also got a nice bump in the tier list, from B to B+ tier. However, given that she had been a B+ tier pick for three of the patches previously (and four of the five patches following her buffs in 9.12) I’m inclined to think this is just stabilization of an abnormally low rating last patch. The modest 0.6% win rate increase this patch could also be a cause.

Finally, there’s Karma who I just cannot make heads or tails of. She got buffs or nerfs in four consecutive patches from 9.12 to 9.15 and has been bouncing around between A tier and C tier throughout the time and even in the patches since then. She was also a B tier pick in 9.16, which is where she is now after being in the C tier last patch, but who knows if she will stay here considering how no one seems to have a good grip where on her power level actually is.
