Why they won’t win

1. Crazy drafts

G2’s drafts can be creative, which can be good, but a lot of the time they can backfire. Backfiring drafts can cost you games. If you have to make a best of five into a best of three or four becuase you tried something that didn’t work against a powerhouse team it lowers your chances of winning.

These weird drafts cause G2 beating themselves rather than a team beating them. Giving away games might not be so bad against lesser foes, but you bet against SKT, RNG, or FunPlus Phoenix those mistakes won’t be unpunished.

G2 also has an overreliance on Pyke, as they have played it in three different lanes. An easy counter for opponents is to ban it out and make them adjust. Don’t let this menace see any rift time in the hands of G2.

I would also say Korea is probably the region most known for off-meta innovation. So maybe the LCK representatives have a creative counter, or have seen the same strategy before. I would also say any LEC team and even Unicorns of Love, who have played in Europe before and Team Liquid with seven games played against G2 in 2019 might not be fooled by G2’s drafts.

2. Other power teams rise above

G2 is good, even great, but so is SKT, Invictus, FunPlus Phoenix, RNG, Team Liquid, and Griffin. Yes, G2 has beaten many of those teams, having wins over SKT and Liquid at MSI, but a lot of the talented teams haven’t gotten to face off against G2 yet.

It also doesn’t help that G2 struggles against Invictus Gaming going 0-2 against them at MSI in 2019 after losing to them in the semi-finals at 2018 Worlds. G2 should pray not to draw Invictus,  or the season may end early. Though it may if any of the other top-performing teams overpower them.

3. Crack under pressure

Crank up Queen for our EU top seed. You have the weight of the LEC on your shoulders, you’re up there with the favorites to win, and you have the opportunity to win the grand slam by winning this tournament.  G2 is the best chance the west has to finally win a world tittle sense Fnatic in season one.  No pressure right?

Well, it very well be that pressure that tears G2 down. If they can’t subdue the expectations to perform and not let it bother them it could be a short stay at Worlds. It just depends on how well this team handles the pressure.

Last year they didn’t have the heavy load to carry being the third seed and they rose to the occasion to make the top four. This year it’s all about stopping the pressure from getting to them as they are in the conversation for the best team in the world going into the tournament.

Overall I think G2 is one of the best teams at this years worlds. They are a dangerous team and no team should feel safe facing them. Though they are beatable if a team can earn it. To see how G2 and the rest of the teams do at worlds stay tuned to the site.
