League of Legends: How European teams have used unique drafts to succeed

Over the past few years, European teams have been taking innovation to a whole new level and to heights never seen from this play-style. Today, we’ll take a trip down memory lane and look back at the unique picks that these EU teams have enjoyed playing.

Currently, League of Legends in Europe is possibly the best quality play we have seen out of the region ever. With G2 Esports successfully picking the craziest team comps you could imagine in pro play and playing them well, to the point where they are the best team in Europe, even when playing these “troll comps”. They played a funnel-style composition in Spring of Season 9, around 6 months after it was supposedly “nerfed out of the game”.

This creative style of drafting has led G2 to the top of the ladder, but they aren’t the first European team to innovate in competitive formats. In fact, some teams are quite well renowned for the innovation they showed on the grandest stages of them all.

Whether it be the Misfits Gaming roster that took titans SK Telecom T1 to five games at Worlds 2017, G2 Esports‘ antics in Season 9, or even a certain jungle pick that current LCL organization Unicorns of Love employed way back in the day, EU has gained the reputation of being the roster who is willing to try anything to succeed, and we commend Europe for having the guts to do it.
