Why they won’t win.

1. they are still a minor region

Vietnam is still not a three-team region, only sending two teams to Worlds with one having to go into play-ins. It’s treated still as a minor, if emerging, region.

For that reason, I feel like a lot of people won’t respect this team.  They just don’t get the results either to earn the respect as most teams from the region might make it to the group stage if that. GAM might be the first to change that but does need some help to do so.

2. Not fooling anyone.

I would call this my counterpoint to being able to upset teams. I would say there’s a strong possibility that a lot of teams see them as a threat and come to Worlds prepared for GAM Esports.

If the other teams from the major regions don’t let GAM take games off of them it can be very tough to steal a spot in the quarterfinals. GAM will have to reach deep into their bag of tricks if they want to take games off their opponents in groups.

3. Stronger championship teams.

Yes, give Gam credit for being a one seed. Yet, they probably are the weakest of all the championship teams to get a free pass into the group stage given their inconsistent performance this year.

I think it would be interesting if they had to go through play-ins and another minor region’s champion like Turkey or Latin America got to skip to groups. Could GAM advance over other regional champs like Icarus, Unicorns of Love, or Detonation Focusme have to do? Even if they did can they beat SKT, Team Liquid, or FunPlus, the champions of other big regions?

They are rated as the 12th best team in our ranking list making them pretty much the midpoint of the teams at worlds. If they overachieve the could challenge for a title. If they don’t and lose to other bigger name teams, no one’s surprised.

GAM is an interesting team to take a look at. I could see them as a team that goes far, or kind of just faded into the background. Either way, check them out at the League of legends 2019 World Championship.

The League of Legends World Championship begins on October 2, 2019, at 7:00 EST / 13:00 CEST.
