League of Legends: Patch 10.5 Top Lane Aggregated Tier List
By Josh Tyler
Buffed Champions
Neeko
Buffs to Neeko’s Tangle Barbs, Pop Blossom, and base stats seemed to be aimed at increasing her power in mid lane. However, those buffs have also brought the Rift’s resident chameleon up to the top lane. There’s actually a fair split between AP and on-hit Neeko builds in the top lane but so far Neeko is only in the D tier.
Blade of the Ruined King Users
Riot took a pass at the items for top laners in Patch 10.5 to give the champions up her more agency. The first of those items, Blade of the Ruined King (“BotRK”), gave increased current health damage to melee users. Before BotRK was mainly an item for ranged carries like Vayne, but have on-hit melee champions begun to use it?
However, only two top laners are building BotRK in their core builds in Patch 10.5: Irelia and Trundle. Clearly, this item still has more lovers in the ranged top laners like Vayne and Quinn than the melees.
Ravenous Hydra Users
On the other hand, the Tiamat items have been a staple of most top laners. Ravenous Hydra got increased lifesteal, increased active radius, and a changed active center point. Here’s how that change affected the most common users.
- Camille = +0.255
- Fiora = +0.381
- Trundle = Not ranked
- Average = +0.318
Ravenous Hydra is clearly the less-popular of the Tiamat items, but those champions who use it clearly got a big boost from the buffs in Patch 10.5.
Titanic Hydra
The other Tiamat item, Titanic Hydra, also got a buff that makes it scale better off the user’s bonus health. You would expect it, therefore, to be much better on heavy tanks and bruisers than fighters.
- Irelia = +0.075
- Jax = +0.089
- Kled = -0.131
- Renekton = +0.372
- Sett = +0.379
- Shen = +0.327
- Volibear = -0.143
- Average = +0.138
Indeed, we see that the tanky bruisers like Renekton, Shen, and Sett are doing better than fighters like Jax and Kled. One notable exception, though, is Volibear, who you would expect to benefit a lot from health scaling on the item.
Nerfed Champions
Ornn
Riot is still trying to send Ornn back to the forge by reducing his brittle proc damage and increasing the level for his masterwork items. So far, Ornn is trying to shrug the nerfs off like all the other nerfs that have been thrown his way, but is having a difficult time. He remains in our S tier, but his win rate dropped over 4% from the last patch.
Sett
Another resident of our S tier basically since his release, Sett took base stat nerfs along with nerfs to the slow on his Show Stopper. Like Ornn, he has remained in our S tier after the nerfs and suffered a drop to his win rate. However, Sett’s win rate dropped far less this patch, only down about 1.5%.
Methodology: These rankings were determined by finding the average standardized score of a champion from nine different tier lists from sites around the internet. This is done by assigning a certain weight to each different score, rank, or grade given by these sites (for instance, both a “Diamond” rating and “A” grade would be worth a 90 score). The standardized score is then determined by looking at the average score given to all champions in every role by that site as well as the standard deviation of scores given (so that sites that give out more high grades will not have their As be worth the same as a site that gives out very few high grades).
The full, underlying data can be found here. This link also includes the full listing of how the scores are assigned. Champions must be rated by at least half of the sites audited in order to qualify for our tier list.
