Azir, the Emperor of the Sands, is getting a rework in the future when it comes to everything he brings to the table in League of Legends.

In League of Legends, it’s all about the META in the grand scheme of things. For those unfamiliar, META is a term that is pretty much the best champion to use at any given time that will win you a plethora of matches. Unfortunately for Azir, the Emperor of the Sands, he’s been low when it comes to popularity and efficiency in the mid lane.

At this point in time, Azir has a 43.81 percent win rate and a 1.34 percent play rate as per Champion.gg. Yeah, it’s pretty low compared to other mid laners but at the end of the day, it’s more than likely due to the fact that not many Summoners care to play him since his kit is difficult to master.

As one of the hardest champions to effectively play in League of Legends, developers have noticed the trend and confirmed that a future rework is coming for Azir. In an article written by Dustin Steiner of PvPLive.net, here is what developers said about the upcoming Azir rework:

"With some of our other projects wrapping up, we’ve started exploring several avenues for shifting power around on his abilities to make him more sustainable for League in the long run, while being very careful to not cause a massive divide between what we want and what current Azir players are excited by. Generally, we’re going to be looking to sharpen his identity and remove extraneous power from his kit in an effort of giving him more counterplay when played extremely well, something he certainly doesn’t have."

For those out there that used to main Azir, this will undoubtedly be great news to hear. It makes sense since a few tweaks here and there could make him a viable option again in League of Legends.

While developers haven’t confirmed when the actual rework will take place, it would make sense for it to happen before their Worlds championship.

Overall, once they change Azir’s kit for the better, expect to see him hopefully return to glory. His character is an interesting one and if they make a few updates to not relying on every ability to summon Soldiers as his dominating style of play, he could end up being a versatile option that could easily fill another role in the Summoner’s Rift.
