It looks like Garen, the Might of Demacia, is getting some upcoming changes to his kit in the future. Here’s a breakdown of what might be heading his way.

As one of the original champions of League of Legends, Garen has been through a lot throughout his many adventures in the Summoner’s Rift. Considered one of the easiest champions to master in the game, Garen is a formidable top lane champion that brings a plethora of health and a kit that is simple yet somewhat effective.

The only issue is, his kit isn’t as strong against newer champions or even META champions in the top lane. Too many times, Garen’s kit reduces him to simply using the “spin to win” tactic of clearing minions quickly with his E – Judgment, charging in against enemy champions, and when possible, finishing enemies off with his R – Demacian Justice. The good news is, his W – Courage might be getting a big change in the future.

In an article written by Tanner Dedmon of ComicBook.com, he confirmed via comments made by Rioter Meddler, that developers are indeed bringing big changes to his his W – Courage to be a bit more skill-based once activated.

Here is what Meddler had to say about these changes:

"“We’re testing a W change where it’s got a short window where it’s much more effective when first cast. Goals there are to both give him a bit more power but also a bit more skill expression, with the timing on that cast mattering more.”"

Garen’s W – Courage is currently getting tested out in the Public Beta Environment with the following changes:

  • Courage’s active gives 60% damage reduction from all damage for the first 0.75 seconds casted
  • Final 2 seconds of Courage will revert back to 30% damage reduction from all damage but increase tenacity by 60%

In the grand scheme of things, such changes would make for any Summoner using Garen to time his W – Courage carefully when engaging enemies and especially when it comes to team fights. It’s about time Garen got a nice boost in damage that also ties into one of his premier tanking abilities. In the end, this should help Garen boost up in not only popularity but when it comes to dishing out better damage against enemy champions.
