The Duskblade of Draktharr absolutely needed a hotfix
Where did that burst of damage come from that just killed you in League of Legends? Probably the overpowered Duskblade of Draktharr which is why it absolutely needed to be nerfed.
If you played League of Legends during the first few days of patch 7.14, which dropped last week, you might have noticed that a lot of people were building the Duskblade of Draktharr. This item was hot-patched less than a week after 7.14 went live because it was too powerful in the early game.
The Duskblade has a passive which adds a chunk of additional damage to any champion who has been out of enemy vision for more than 60 seconds. This made ganking junglers, like Nocturne, very strong in the early game. They were able to pop squishy champions like cheap balloons. Most junglers wouldn’t even bother finishing their jungle item before they rushed the new Duskblade!
This tweet by Phreak breaks down the numbers for the passive damage buff on the Duskblade. It’s a spreadsheet with a lot of numbers, but what does that mean to you?
Primarily this makes it less valuable to rush a Duskblade early. Duskblade scales with level. Developers reduced the passive damage on lower levels by about 20 percent. I say 20 percent because it is very difficult to have the item before you hit level 6, so the biggest nerfs in the earlier levels don’t really have much effect.

Was this patch really necessary then?
Absolutely. The passive damage is still very high on the Duskblade but even the 20 percent reduction gives squishy ADCs a better chance at surviving a gank than they had when 7.14 went live.
While ADCs are great mid-late game champions, they are vulnerable in the early game and developers didn’t want to make the role unplayable. While strong items are fun, League of Legends has to be healthy for all the roles, not just the assassins.
