League of Legends is making it even easier for you to manage your item purchases directly in the game with Patch 7.17.

Since the new League of Legends client launched early this year (late last year for Beta folks), Riot Games has been working on a number of ways to improve the interface and playability of the game. With patch 7.17, we are getting champ balances but also a very exciting improvement for item management.

When you create your custom item sets for your main champions, you can assign the items to specific slots now! Riot Games understands the frustration and time crunch behind going back to base and rushing to rejoin your team. Sometimes you don’t have the presence of mind to make sure your active items are on the right hotkey and it can lose you an important team fight.

Now, when you go to your Collection tab on the client, you will be able to customize which item slot the item goes to when bought. Need the Blade of the Ruined King active on “3”? You can do that by using the little grid icon in the upper right.

The coolest feature is that your inventory will adjust to make sure it reflects your preferred item slot for that item.

So, if you have a Cloth Armor in 1, but your Youmuu’s Ghostblade is set as preferred for 1 it will rotate your inventory so that the Ghostblade fits your preference and the Cloth Armor can go somewhere else.

It’s important to note that item sets and assignments are unique to champions and maps. The key bindings are unique to that specific item set. This means they won’t transfer to new ones you create so make sure to assign them every time!

Does that mean you can’t change it in-game? No! You can still move your item sets around and if you keep those settings, League of Legends will save those as your new preferred item slots! How cool is that? I can’t wait to try out the new preferred item slots. Let us know what you think about them in the comments below!
