Showdown is eventually coming back as1v1 and 2v2 game modes are finally coming to League of Legends.

For years now, the majority of games in League of Legends always revolved around the popular Summoner’s Rift. The 5v5 game mode is what everyone focuses on in order to continue honing their craft.

The truth of the matter is, besides the Twisted Treeline, having more options to improve in the game is always better than just the same two. Yes, the 3v3 aspect of Twisted Treeline is fun but to be able to have a real game in a 1v1 or even 2v2 format would be even more ideal.

Luckily, developers have confirmed that these new game modes are indeed on the horizon. In an article written by Aaron Mickunas of Dot Esports, he confirmed that Showdown is indeed returning to League of Legends.

Too many times, it’s hard to get a real gauge on a Summoner when entering those key situations in a match that can make the difference if you’re winning or losing.

Now, people who want to test their friends if they’re truly improved or try to get bragging rights that they are better can do so in the 1v1 format.

Keep in mind that this will more than likely be a custom game mode and perhaps down the road, developers might use it for upcoming special events tied into Missions. The possibilities are endless, especially when it comes to all the different companies and sponsors who want to feature short, quicker 2v2 matches in a live tournament. There is no official date when Showdown will return but it seems like something that would make sense to add in the new year.
