The first patch of the 2019 year has been active for almost a week, giving plenty of time for the data to fill up tier lists around the internet. Between the professional rankings and the data, which champions do they recommend for Patch 9.1?

Patch 9.1 brought us huge changes to champions like Ornn, Sejuani, and Kalista, as well as some minor balancing changes to other champions. There were some systemic changes to runes like Shield Bash, Celerity, and Hail of Blades.

A week of play has passed since these changes went into effect, giving us and other tier list makers plenty of opportunities to see how the Patch 9.1 changes have played out on the rift. Some of the changes – like those to Ornn and Sejuani – were significant, while other big changes like those to Kalista haven’t made much of a change. Some other past changes – like the buffs to Corki in Patch 8.24(b) – have started to take shape.

But the question isn’t whether those changes have taken place, but how much? Here is the updated Patch 9.1 tier list. As usual, the data for tier lists can be found here.

Top

S tier: Jax, Urgot

A tier: Riven, Aatrox, Irelia, Kled, Yasuo, Darius, Garen, Camille, Illaoi, Pantheon, Rengar, Renekton, Jayce, Vladimir, Nasus, Akali, Kennen

B tier: Teemo, Quinn, Lissandra, Wukong, Sion, Malphite, Fiora, Poppy, Mordekaiser, Rumble, Tryndamere, Maokai, Gangplank, Cassiopeia

C tier: Viktor, Yorick, Ornn, Singed, Olaf, Kayle, Cho’Gath, Dr. Mundo, Shen, Heimerdinger, Ryze, Swain, Gnar, Karthus, Vayne, Tahm Kench

D tier: Karma, Volibear, Trundle

Most buffed champion: Nasus. Honorable mentions, Ornn, Yasuo.

Most nerfed champion: Sion. Honorable mentions, Heimerdinger, Trundle.

Once again, the top tiers are the same patch to patch. Yes, Riven fell out of the S tier, but only barely. Camille and Renekton dropped, while Irelia, Kled, and especially Yasuo rose to the top.

One little quirk of these rankings was that a few of the tier lists that were used were suspiciously incomplete, leaving off champions like Teemo and Sion, which caused their precipitous drop in the ranking. That’s why these two have among the highest “spread” or disagreement as to their places. It’s very likely that next patch they will rebound to their normal ranking.

As to the champions that are on the upswing, those Nasus buffs in Patch 9.1 seem to have done the trick. The Curator of the Sands rose an entire tier in one patch, from C tier to A tier. Ornn also improved his standing, although he remained in the same tier.

As to which champions not to play, well Volibear and Trundle remain terrible picks. And the poor Troll King actually dropped in terms of effectiveness. Also, Karma top and Vayne top have entered the meta in Patch 9.1, though neither seems to be an effective pick.
