League of Legends: why is Griffin the strongest team in the world?
By Richelle Lau
Griffin has been the strongest team in the LCK, and possibly the best professional League of Legends team anywhere, so it’s time to look at why they are so good.
If you’re a League lover and haven’t heard of the League of Legends team Griffin, where have you been? Griffin from the LCK is arguably the strongest team in the world right now, currently untouchable in Korea pro play and quite possibly internationally.
They have gone 10-0 in matches so far in the LCK having only given up one game win to SANDBOX Gaming (currently the second placed team). There are many reasons why Griffin have been so dominant in the LCK, and we thought we’d explain them in this blog! Keep reading to find out what they are!
Flexible game plans
Griffin is a team that can play many through many different compositions and game plans seamlessly. They can play early lane-dominant team strategies, and stall-and-scale-for-late-game strategies depending on the situations they are presented with. Poke compositions, engage compositions, team fight centric compositions – Griffin can play them all.

All the players on Griffin understand their win conditions within all these different and complex game plans and play towards them flawlessly, unafraid to take some risks while also seemingly playing out a meticulous plan in every match. Their ability to adapt in-game even in the picking and banning phase of every match makes Griffin certainly one of, if not the strongest team in the world right now.
Champion oceans
The Griffin players all have huge champion oceans (and by that, I mean a wide selection of champions they can play extremely well on stage). Not only can all their players play so many champions to perfection they also manage to work their occasional weird picks into their team compositions while also picking to counter their opponent’s champion.
For example, when mages were all-the-rage bot lane back in 2018, Park “Viper” Do-hyeon pulled out the Teemo, not once but twice on the LCK stage, managing to win both games! This year, Son “Lehends” Si-woo also stunned with his Elise support which managed to look OP in his hands but terrible in everyone else’s. Due to Griffin’s ability to play so many champions at the highest possible level, they are able to win through different team compositions and game plans, making them that much harder to prepare for and predict.
Mechanically skilled
To put it simply, all of Griffin’s individual players are just incredibly talented and mechanically skilled at the game, whether it is their game sense or their reaction time or their raw ability to press the right buttons at the right time. They are miles ahead of everyone else and the stand-out players are arguably Lee “Tarzan” Seung-yong in the Jungle position and Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon in the mid-lane.
These guys are incredibly adept at every single champion, with Chovy (only just 18 years old) having become the first professional player in all of League history to achieve a 100 KDA. Mechanical outplays are incredibly common from the side of Griffin in all their matches and hence their individual mechanical skills definitely contribute to their status as the strongest team in the League right now.
Team Chemistry
Of course, as the saying goes, Griffin is a team which is more than the sum of their individual parts. Don’t get me wrong, all their individual players are obviously outstanding and probably the best in each role, but together, these players are something else. Either their coaches have planned every detail for every match, or the players have great chemistry together because, in almost all instances and team plays, Griffin’s members all seem to be on the same page.
They are aware of one another’s weaknesses and strengths and can cover for each other when needed. While being able to mechanically outplay their lane opponents, Griffin also out-maneuver their opponents as a team, and it doesn’t help that they’re perfect at team fighting. With how strong they are as a five-man squad, it seems Griffin is unstoppable on the world stage right now.
So these are the main reasons why I believe that Griffin are the strongest team in the world! Got other ideas or arguments? Share them with us in the comments section down below!
