League of Legends creators Riot Games working on new fighting game
By Shay Coleman
Time to get excited! League of Legends creators “Riot Games” employee and “EVO Championship Series” co-founder Tom Cannon has confirmed the new fighting game’s development at EVO this year.
With all the madness over at Riot Games this year with the state of solo queue in League of Legends and the development of new smash hit Teamfight Tactics, it looks like it’s about to heat up yet again with the confirmation of a fighting game in development.
This comes as no surprise to some, with a Riot fighting game being rumored ever since Cannon’s company Radiant Entertainment was bought out by Riot Games in 2016. However, we haven’t had confirmation on the matter until now. While it’s no surprise, it’s time to be excited about the next big fighting game.

Tom Cannon confirmed this as he said, “and I want to be able to let people in on maybe the worst kept secret in the universe, which is I can confirm that we are working on a fighting game for Riot.”. He was originally working on a fighting game with his twin brother Tony when they co-founded Radiant Entertainment. It was titled “Rising Thunder” and consisted of robots in one-on-one combat.
Little is known about the project that Tom Cannon and his team are working on at Riot, but I am sure it will be another smash hit from Riot. This follows the massive release of Teamfight Tactics, an auto-battler from Riot which has swept the community and sparked plenty of interest, consistently being the most viewed game on Twitch.tv at any given point.
Initial Reaction
I for one am extremely excited to see this game announced. With the funds from Riot Games behind it and a creator who is extremely passionate about fighting games, I think we are in for something really special. Seeing this game at EVO would do wonders for Riot Games, as they look to have an IP separate from League of Legends.
We can only wait and see, however, but I believe there is a very slim chance that this game fails. It will have a wide player base from launch with all League of Legends players and content creators alike looking to see what all the fuss is about with Riot’s new endeavors.
