League of Legends: why Hong Kong Attitude will or won’t win Worlds
By s. samek
We continue to break down why each team can or cannot win Worlds in 2019. The next League of Legends team we evaluate is Hong Kong Attitude.
Hong Kong Attitude is the third and final seed from the LMS region. They defeated Flash Wolves and G-rex in the regional finals to earn the third seed at League of Legends World Championship for the LMS. Even though they’re underdogs in their own region and have to fight through playoffs, can they pull off an improbable Worlds win?

Why Hong Kong Attitude will win Worlds
1. LMS is still a major region
The LMS is still considered a major region at the tournament and is bringing three teams, including Hong Kong Attitude. The LMS is a region you have to respect and has typically done better than any of the minor play-in regions is.
This is a team that will take anyone on and not back down. Hong Kong Attitude has beaten two worlds-caliber teams from last season when they beat G-Rex and Flash Wolves in the Regional Finals. They went 6-0 in that tournament and showed they can add to the might of the LMS at worlds.
2. Upsets
This is a lower seed, but major region, team making them a prime team to upset some teams that overlook them. Hong Kong Attitude could surprise higher ranked teams that don’t feel they need to prepare for them. If they can upset enough teams they could be World Champions.
3. No pressure
Being the last seed from a region at Worlds typically makes things a little easier in the expectations department. Like you’re not carrying the region on our shoulders and making it to groups can be seen as a success. Make it out of groups and you’ve really defied expectations.
Hong Kong Attitude isn’t under any pressure to win it all like SKT or G2 is. They can loosen up, try some weird things, and see if they can make a run. After all why not go for it if you have nothing to lose anyway?
Why Hong Kong Attitude won’t win Worlds
1. Low Ranking
HKA is rated as the 17th best team out of the 24 Worlds team on our list. If a17th place performance if what we expect, that would mean they miss out on the group stage and are eliminated in the play-in knockouts. Not getting out of play-ins is pretty far away from winning a World Championship.
Lowkey and Mega could challenge them to take their spot as group winner. If that happens it could be a tougher road to beat a team in knockout if they get a favorite Like Splyce, or Damwon. HKA is the one group favorite that most people talk about to be upset and I can definitely see them struggle especially if they drop a game early.
2. Groups
Speaking of groups lets see what group HKA could be in if they advance to the main event. Based on where the other two LMS teams were placed, the two available spots are in Group A or Group C.
Group A has Cloud 9, G2 and Griffin, so a group with the tournament favorite, a 2018 Worlds semifinalist, and the LCK’s top regular-season team in both splits. It’s a tough group that I don’t see HKA getting out of if they make it here in the first place.
Group C doesn’t do them any favors either. There, you have SKT, RNG, and Fnatic, a group with lots of star players and another tournament favorite in SKT, a good RNG team, and a Fnatic back after making the finals at last years Worlds. It would be a long shot for HKA to get a game win let alone advance from this group as well.
3. Lack of a star player
HKA doesn’t really have that standout that everyone recognizes as a star player. HKA’s bottom lane duo are both rated 18th out of 24 at their positions this is ADC Wong “Unified” Chun Kit and support Ling “Kaiwing” Kai Wing.
Middle Laner Chen “M1ssion” Hsiao-Hsien rated slightly better at 17th , while top laner Chen “3z” Han was rated 21st best top at worlds. In the jungle Lee “Crash” Dong-woo did pretty well at being rated at #13, but how far can a middle-of-the-pack jungler help a heavier rated team? Like i don’t think Crash is enough star power to lead this team to a title when a star needs to step up.
