Stock up
Invictus Gaming
In the match-up to take control of Group D, Invictus Gaming dealt the first blow in a convincing win over Team Liquid. Yes, TL kept the game close for most of the game and certainly gave NA fans a lot to be excited about as they get a bout with AHQ tomorrow, but IG looked more like the defending World Champs than the team that limped into Worlds as a three-seed.
While the whole team looked impressive, mid laner Song “Rookie” Eui-jin stood out. Not only did his stat line (6/1/7 on Orianna) look impressive, Rookie was the biggest factor in helping control those mid and late game team fights for IG. If he, TheShy, and JackeyLove continue to play at a high level, Invictus will be tough to beat.
G2 Esports
G2 got a tough draw to start their Worlds run, facing off against one of the best teams in the LCK, Griffin. G2 absolutely dominated the game and looked like one of the best teams in the world.
While jungler Jankos won Player of the Game accolades, I’m going to give some props to ADC Luka “Perkz” Perković, who went 8/1/2 on Kai’Sa. Performing this well against Viper, who I consider to be the best ADC at Worlds, is incredibly impressive. Perkz’s performance highlights how vastly G2 outplayed Griffin today.
Stock down
Ming
It was a super close game to open Day 2 between SKT and RNG in a battle for supremacy of Group C. Ultimately, SKT edged out the win, but one player who really looked to be holding RNG back was support Shi “Ming” Sen-Ming. Ming went 1/6/12 on Blitzcrank and missed multiple critical hooks.
Cloud9
To win your opening game of the Worlds stage but also having your stock be down is quite concerning. Unfortunately, that is where C9 is right now.
Hong Kong Attitude gave C9 all that they could handle, dragging the game out to 46 minutes before the NA’s second seed finally closed out the win. It’s quite concerning that a play-in team gave Cloud9 that much difficulty, considering they’ll need to take games off Griffin or G2 if they want a shot to get out of the group.
The League of Legends World Championship resumes tomorrow at 9:00 EST / 15:00 CEST.
