While his lane partner Doublelift was vilified (rightly) for his poor attitude during the Spring Split, which likely cost his team a playoff berth, CoreJJ was praised for his attitude. Doublelift is swarmed in controversy, ready for the scrutiny that comes with a move back to one of the most polarizing teams in the LCS. All the while, CoreJJ gets to start over and groom a young, promising ADC to cement his legacy as the driver of TL’s historic success.
All of the attention on Doublelift took away notice that CoreJJ himself actually had a pretty poor split in the spring. To be fair, a lot of that is attributable to the poor play of his lane partner and the whole team’s dysfunction that resulted. Also, his “bad” split still had him right there in the top five of LCS supports, so he was above average.
But this was a player who was in contention for MVP back in Summer 2019 and probably would have won if he wasn’t surrounded by four other players who easily made the case to win the award as well. CoreJJ has all the talent, and his stats didn’t fully decline in the spring. That said, he should still be hungry to make Summer 2020 an even better performance to get TL back to the top of the LCS.
