Dynamic queue has officially killed solo queue

It doesn’t matter if you enjoy dynamic queue or not, because it’s here to stay.

Why is Amumu the image of this post, you ask? Because, on a day like today, we can all related to the Sad Mummy.

Dynamic queue has been with us for five months now, and that’s given Riot enough time to evaluate it and decide that solo queue is not needed in League of Legends.

That’s right, solo queue is officially gone.

Riot said that solo queue would return at some point whenever it went away for the release of dynamic queue, but they have slowly dragged us to the decision they made today. They hinted at scrapping it a couple of months ago, and a month later it was put on hold all together.

Seriously, we saw this coming.

In today’s announcement, Riot Socrates said: “We agree dynamic queue standings don’t reflect pure individual skill as well as a solo ladder, but they also don’t inhibit competitive team experiences, and that’s a trade-off we want to make. After considering all possible options and assessing the gains (and losses) of dynamic queue over the last five months, we’ve made the decision to not bring back solo queue.”

It might be premature to already say this, but the removal of solo queue might go down as the worst decision Riot has ever made to League of Legends. Numerous players have already stopped playing the game because of dynamic queue, and that number may rise as people get more sick of it. They can throw as many pretty graphs in our face to tell us that we should trust them, but at the end of the day, the vast majority of the community isn’t behind this decision at all.

Riot has so many things to improve and add into the game (replay and sandbox mode to name a couple), and yet they decided to mess with something that was working perfectly the way it was. Everyone knows the saying: if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it.

Riot is going to try to improve dynamic queue as well as they can, but even that won’t make a difference to a lot of people. And besides, it’s starting to become extremely questionable if this system can ever even work to the level that they want it to. The system is still extremely flawed even after five months of work to it. That isn’t very promising.

It seems like this is going to be an issue that Riot will have to deal with for a long time, but hey, they did this to themselves.

Bring back solo queue.
