2016 World Championship: Day three group stage guide
By Xing Li
Day Three of the 2016 World Championship features several premier matchups, including Europe’s top seed against the champions from the LCK.
Day Two of the 2016 World Championship saw the pre-tournament favorites dominate. Will Day Three continue that streak? Or will the upsets of Day One carry over? Let’s take a look at the upcoming matches. We’ve included a watch score for each game based on how good we think it will be.
You can follow tonight’s action on Lolesports, Twitch, or Youtube. The alternate streams are on Lolesports.com and the Riot 2 Twitch channel. We will also be tweeting action from @BlogofLol.
Counter Logic Gaming vs Albus NoX Luna: watch score 5/10 (7:00 PM ET)
CLG played a magnificent macro game in their Day One win versus G2 eSports. Their protect-the-ADC comp worked beautifully as Trevor “Stixxay” Hayes had a big game reminiscent of MSI.
CLG is the favorite here, but Albus NoX cannot be written off. They were taking it to the ROX Tigers in skirmishes across the map before the Korean team’s superior skill eventually carried the day. As we saw from INTZ, international teams are not to be trifled with.
The alternate stream will focus on the support matchup between Zaqueri “aphromoo” Black and Kirill “Likkrit” Malofeyev.
ROX Tigers vs G2 Esports: watch score 6/10 (8:00 PM ET)
ROX Tigers weren’t in real danger of losing their Day One match, but it certainly wasn’t clean. In particular, star jungler Han “Peanut” Wang-ho can play even better. He was great on Elise against Albus. ROX can play even better around his presence.

G2 struggled in their map play and shot calling against CLG. They need to be more proactive and trade objectives. This is going to be an uphill battle, but the group stage is young and they need to view this game as a building block.
The alternate stream will be a good one: Peanut vs G2 jungler Kim “Trick” Gang-yun. Trick came out of the LCK and this is a premier matchup.
Flash Wolves vs Cloud9 Gaming: watch score 8/10 (9:00 PM ET)
Flash Wolves started yesterday’s game against I May well, but a disastrous Dragon call led to defeat.
Cloud9 also has some late-game shot calling issues, but this is a different team than the one that started the Summer Split. Coach Bok “Reapered” Han-gyu has worked wonders for his team. Both teams are hoping Day Three is better to them.
The alternate stream features the mid lane: C9’s Nicolaj “Jensen” Jensen against FW’s Huang “Maple” Yi-Tang. These are two of the world’s best mid laners, but neither is as good as…
I May vs SK Telecom T1: watch score 4/10 (10:00 PM ET)
…SKT’s star, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok. In fact, the alternate stream will focus just on Faker, so we can all revel in his excellence and wonder and his skill.
I May have to feel good about their win over Flash Wolves. Nothing in that game should make SKT concerned about this Day three matchup.

Splyce vs Team SoloMid: watch score 3/10 (11:00 PM ET)
Like G2, Splyce need to find something to build on. Specifically, Jonas “Trashy” Andersen needs to play better in the jungle. He has his work cut out for him, as TSM’s Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen is playing out of his mind.
Riot are certainly on board with the jungle priority as the alternate stream will focus on the jungle matchup.
Royal Never Give Up vs Samsung Galaxy: watch score 8/10 (12:00 AM ET)
This game has huge implications for the group. TSM need some help if they want to stop Royal from taking the number one seed. And Samsung do not want to fall another game behind.
The alternate stream features RNG’s bot lane duo of Uzi and Mata. It will be a fog of war stream, so you’ll only be able to see what they see. Because Mata is one of the best in the world at roaming for vision, this should be good.
