League must rework how clans operate
League of Legends must start thinking about the long-term progression when it comes to clans and how they operate in the grand scheme of things.
In many popular online games, the best of the best have a great thing going when it comes to the community. Let’s face it, a community that thrives as great as League of Legends does should have a fantastic in-game setup when it comes to clans and guilds, right? Unfortunately, that isn’t the case at all.
Even though it’s been a while since League first introduced clans to the game, it’s sadly nowhere near the potential it can be. There are no clan rewards at all when playing together and even the interface is a bit confusing and annoying.
Besides a clan tag, there is nothing else that really distinguishes playing with fellow clan members. Even the chat interface is simply the same as if you’re talking to a friend in League, it’s just one big group chat with no easy way to invite them into queuing up. You’d have to send a friend request to them first then play together that way.

League should take a page from how games like World of WarCraft or just any MMORPG, in general, handles their clans and guilds. They reward when everyone plays together, makes it easy to schedule matches/events together, and has some sort of cosmetic item to show your clan allegiance. Perhaps a tabard or some customizable logo on your towers would go a long way in making being part of a clan more fun and engaging.
The truth of the matter is, League continues to evolve at a rapid rate. The game is growing immensely, especially when it comes to the Esports scene. We’ve all seen how great pro teams are but bringing some of that style and feel to the game through clans would make the community even better.
Hopefully, League makes clans down the road much more efficient, organized and gives Summoners the chance to actually enjoy teaming up with clanmates to enjoy the game. It would be a great feature to have that promotes playing together with others for a common goal. Perhaps League could add a clan leveling system that gives faster XP earned or even IP points. The possibilities are endless but at this point in time, clans in League leave much to the imagination.
