League of Legends finally brings ban changes for unusual champion selections
For Summoners that like to play different champions than what the norm is, there is no need to worry anymore about getting a 14-day ban in League of Legends after getting reported.
Yes, it’s probably not a good idea to use Garen as a Support option or think about taking Jhin into the top lane. What more than likely would happen if you do finalize your pick for one of those champions in a League of Legends competitive matchup, you will get laughed at and reported by your teammates.
League of Legends would then believe you’re intentionally trolling or aren’t doing what it takes to truly contribute towards victory due to picking the wrong champion for a particular role. The end result would be a 14-day ban which left many Summoners dumbfounded to get banned because they wanted to play either a favorite champion or one they owned in an unpopular or “wrong” role by veterans of the game.
Well, things are about to change and for the better. League of Legends is finally bringing some pretty big changes to how they handle bans for unusual champion selections. In an article written by James “Obscurica” Chen for PvPLive.net, here is what League of Legends had to say:

"Doing crazy stuff and challenging the meta is something we want to enshrine in League of Legends. And although this may cause a higher burden on teammates and communication; after review we feel a 14 day ban for imperfect communication (when there is a clear intent to win matches) is too harsh."
The above statement is 100 percent true. League of Legends is a game that is constantly changing. Just because a Summoner picks an out of the ordinary champion, doesn’t always necessarily mean it won’t work. Too many times, teammates tend to make matches toxic because right off the bat they feel a player that picks an unusual champion will automatically fail and bring a loss.
At the end of the day, League of Legends getting rid of the 14-day ban in favor of locking an account until a player speaks to support is ultimately a better way to handle things. For all they know, it could be a new player that still hasn’t grasped the overall purpose of a role and needs more time to improve. Or, could have gone against the meta and started something new that hasn’t been done before that actually works.
Overall, League of Legends is about teamwork and supporting those around you to play the very best they can with their favorite champions and hope for the best. With this new rule set, it will undoubtedly help the game and its players improve the in-game experience when it comes to picking champions for roles that might not make sense but could ultimately turn out to be successful.
