As League of Legends continues to immensely grow in popularity, it would actually be a terrible mistake in making a big screen movie about the franchise.

Make no mistake about it, League of Legends is huge. Hundreds of millions of players gather worldwide to play in the Fields of Justice as their favorite champions to make a name for themselves. The game isn’t easy at all to master but provides countless gameplay for those that enjoy the competitiveness that comes with every single match.

Of course, when a gaming franchise gets as big as League of Legends does, it starts to question if it could be turned into a big screen movie. Ask yourself, who wouldn’t want to see Garen come to life, saving Demacia from evil or trying to stop Warwick in the mysterious jungle where anything can happen?

The biggest problem, however, is that in the history of video game movies turned to life, they never do well at the box office. At the end of it all, video game movies tend to never live up to the hype generating by the franchise, to begin with. Even popular gaming franchises that hit the big screen over the years like WarCraft, Assassin’s Creed, and even Prince of Persia all failed to deliver the authentic cinematic experience gamers get from in-game stories or the epic lore created by development teams.

League of Legends does a great job bringing incredible background stories to all their champions that can be intertwined or at the very least, provide some excellent storytelling to make battles even more intense. Taking a look at their new League of Legends “Universe” directly on their website goes to show that doing short stories to break down what makes champions so unique gets the job done rather well.

Making a big screen movie anytime soon would be a mistake since there is no way they could make it all come together without confusion setting in. The game boasts well over 100 champions and it’s hard to pick any particular story without leaving important parts out and not to mention, there would have to be a plethora of fighting in order to have everything come together.

Sure, it would be cool to have a real-life Summoner’s Rift captured on the big screen but would moviegoers really want to sit for two hours or more seeing mythical champions battle it out without any real explanations? Again, the universe in League of Legends is far too big to make a movie out of it that would make it a financial hit.

Overall, it’s best League of Legends sticks to what works. If anything, perhaps they could take their popular stories they’ve already elaborated on and make them into animated Blu-Ray titles or even stream them on popular outlets like Netflix, YouTube, or Hulu. Either way, a big movie about League of Legends wouldn’t work in the grand scheme of things and would more than likely end up as a confusing flick that would leave much unsaid.
