When a new champion is introduced in League of Legends, it would be wise for them to be unavailable for at least a month in ranked competitive play or even have a level requirement.

We have all been there before. When a new champion is introduced in League of Legends, it usually takes a few weeks for it to be balanced enough so it doesn’t become the next META. A perfect example of this is when Warwick was reworked and reintroduced into the game, he was truly a force to reckon with.

Worst of all is that he was eligible to play in ranked competitive matches and needless to say, was a popular champion that was either banned or overpowering the competition. If Warwick made it through to competitive matches, he was always on top of his game and tilted matches in favor of his team.

It’s good to introduce new champions into League of Legends but it’s also wise to perhaps put a 30-day ban on using them in ranked matchmaking. That way, it reduces their early impact in matchmaking and allows developers to make any bug fixes or nerfs along the way.

In the grand scheme of things, it would make sense to either put such a 30-day ban on new champions or at the very least, put a level requirement before they’re eligible to be used in ranked matchmaking. That way, opposing teams don’t have to worry about playing an overpowered champion that would hurt their ELO.

With new characters coming soon to League of Legends in Rakan and Xayah, it would make sense to use such a new system to prevent them from messing things up in competitive matches. Considering that they will more than likely be the next powerful duo in League of Legends, it would be wise to make sure Summoners don’t have to deal with them right off the bat in matches that actually matter.
