Saying goodbye to the Legacy Client
In the final week of April, the League of Legends Legacy Client will officially retire as the memories will always remain but it’s time to usher in a new era in the franchise.
For about eight years now, the original Legacy Client in League of Legends was what Summoners from across the world enjoyed using to log into their favorite MOBA. You were able to create your item sets, enjoy chatting with fellow Summoners and the process was pretty smooth entering the Summoner’s Rift.
While many will be sad to see the original Legacy Client finally be retired on Monday, April 24th, 2017, it’s time to usher in the next era in League of Legends. As the game continues to be one of the most played PC games around the world, it’s important to make the game look, perform, and be enjoyed by many with updated standards that are up to the demand of gamers.
Make no mistake about it, games must look great, be simple to understand, and all have an interface that is crisp, functional, and ensures a high-quality experience. Yes, the new League of Legends client isn’t as fast as the original version, you can’t save item sets until they add that function in later on, and it’s still buggy.

At the end of the day, it’s a transition that needs to happen. The Legacy Client compared to all the other popular online games out there isn’t exactly appealing enough to bring in new gamers and have them continue playing the game consistently. For League of Legends to continue growing and adding new gamers to improve the community, it’s important for this old client to be retired to make way for the new one.
While we all say goodbye to the Legacy Client, League of Legends will continue listening to their community and improving their new gaming client as time progresses. Developers have always done their very best to make the community happy and continue making League of Legends the premier MOBA to play. The Legacy Client will be missed by all those original players that started from the beginning but for the most part, but change is good in the grand scheme of things. These are one of those changes that truly make sense for a game that is played by millions across the world.
