Breaking down the upcoming missions update
Developers have confirmed that missions are currently being worked on for a future big update to League of Legends.
Ah yes, missions, it’s been the cornerstone of many video games for decades now. It’s hard to imagine missions being in an MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena) game but developers of League of Legends have confirmed that such an update is indeed being worked on.
This actually makes a ton of sense in the grand scheme of things. As League of Legends continues to grow into greater heights, developers need to ensure the game is fresh, fun, and innovative. There will still be the classic PvP (player vs. player) aspect to it but throwing in missions will add a nice dimension to break things up every now and then.
The possibilities are endless as to how these new missions will develop over time. Especially if League of Legends can have special events around holidays involving missions for icons, items, skins, or even wards.

In an article written by Evan “Revenancer” Humphreys for League of Legends, here is what he had to say about what the overall vision will be with missions:
"Missions will offer players new challenges to solve on the Rift for rewards like unique skins, Summoner icons, and loot. Since this is uncharted territory for League, we don’t quite know where we’ll end up years from now, but we do have some guiding principles to separate a good mission from a bad one."
Missions that will reward Summoners with what Humphreys said will be huge. From the looks of it, League of Legends wants to make sure the missions are fresh, fun, and nothing like those seen in other games that require a plethora of time to complete. The rewards will be fun to earn and well, it will only make League of Legends and even bigger gaming franchise.
The last thing gamers want in a game like this is to have silly quests that dilute the experience to one that is similar to an MMO. Developers will undoubtedly ensure that the missions that will be rolled out in the future will avoid any of that. Expect to see missions that will enable you to earn awesome loot based on various parts of the game like getting a certain number of kills, assists, and doing your particular role efficiently.
