League of Legends has always been serious about protecting the accounts of their gamers. Expect to see a new two-step login process in the future.

Account security has always been a high priority by League of Legends. The only problem is, it’s one of the few gaming franchises that have yet to incorporate an additional layer of security when it comes to logging into the actual game.

Multiplayer games of this magnitude tend to have a two-step login option to ensure that if someone hacks your account, it’s easy for the owner to reclaim control and reset your password to stop their evil ways. At this point in time, League of Legends doesn’t have it in place but rest assured, it’s on the horizon.

In an article written by James “Obscurica” Chen for PvPLive.net, he confirmed via developer MoshiDog that it’s being worked on for the future. Here is what he had to say:

"As we begin to phase in new security measures, we will be leveraging a verified email address to confirm the activity on your account. Over time we are looking into expanding the use of additional factors for authentication and may add the option to use a cell phone instead of an email. We will likely be offering the option for players to require a secondary factor for logins at some point in the future."

In the grand scheme of things, this makes total sense to protect gamers that get hacked. Most Summoners enjoy have various skins and even use their IP points to add more champions to their collections.

Over the months and years, all of that adds up as it would be a shame if a hacker was able to take complete control and a gamer lost it all. Once an account is hacked, it’s very hard to get it back unless a two-step login process is in place.

Adding an extra layer of security via e-mail verification goes a long way in preventing hackers from taking accounts from their rightful owner. In the end, this new two-step login process will help keep prized accounts even safer in League of Legends.
