New ping for wards will be hotkeyed
Map awareness and vision are two of the most important factors when it comes to winning matches in League of Legends. To help with this, a new update is coming to have the ability to ping wards that will be an option to hotkey.
Before Summoners in League of Legends start to freak out, no, the option to ping wards will not be added to the current ping wheel. It was one of those final decisions made by developers to ensure that if players want the option to use the upcoming new ping ward feature, they can choose how they want it enabled, if at all.
The truth of the matter is, map awareness is huge when it comes to League of Legends as it’s imperative for teammates to know to the best of their ability, where the opposition is at all times. Not everyone will have their eyes glued on the map like others as a simple ping to let everyone know where you suspect enemy wards are will go a long way. Especially to aid in not revealing strategies, lane pushes, or even when trying to go for a Baron or dragon kill.
In an article written by Tanner Dedmon of ComicBook.com, he confirmed that a new ping for letting teammates know about wards will be added in a future patch. It’s currently being tested out in the PBE as here is what he had to say:

"To enable the ping, it’s as simple as going through the options to the hotkeys section and finally into the communication category. Here, you can bind the new ping, but you won’t be able to replace any of the current ping wheel options at this time as Riot has stated in the past that they plan to keep the ping wheel as is."
Summoners will see a brand new red eye logo when teammates ping an area that they believe is warded as it should help when roaming and especially in the jungle. Making this an optionable hotkey makes the most sense since it will all come down to the preference of the player. Remember, make it easy for yourself since, in key moments of a match, you don’t want to be stuck either forgetting where you hotkeyed it or assign it somewhere that is of inconvenience.
While no official announcement has been made by developers, this new ping ward feature should most likely be available in either patch update 7.16 or 7.17.
