Aatrox Rework Officially Announced
After years of neglect and memes (and then a period of time where he was / is meta) Riot has officially revealed Aatrox‘s rework teaser.
It comes as almost comical that the long awaited news has arrived at a time where people actually play the Top Laner competitively and might not want him reworked.
The champion currently has a modest 50.12% win rate according to Champion.gg’s statistics, which puts him at the pinnacle of a ‘not great, not bad’ champion.
All the same, a rework for Aatrox has been a plan of Riot’s for a long time, and the pedal has been floored for the news to come out for so long that cancelling all of their work due to him being half-viable in today’s meta would be short-sighted.

The teaser
doesn’t reveal much of anything about the rework itself other than the bulkier aesthetics Riot has given the demon-man-thing. Although, some have tried to dissect what they could from the video, which you can see here, as a means to pick up the little hints surrounding Aatrox‘s new kit.
As you might find, some are interested to see that Aatrox pulls his sword back to himself in the beginning of the video. This might allude to a replacement ability for the World Ender’s E, which was a ranged ability that possibly includes a mechanic similar to Irelia’s new E in which she throws her blades out from her ‘grasp’.
After the bloodshed following Aatrox‘s sword pull, his silhouette is shown to grow in size, which might be a clue onto his new ultimate. Currently his R increases his attack speed and visual size. Perhaps Riot are keeping the ultimate’s effects close to the original? Or maybe it’s showcasing a passive ability that Aatrox gets when he kills his foes, as he did in the video.
Its a lot of “maybe’s”, but only time can reveal what Riot have planned for the Auto-Attacktrox machine we all have come to love…. or a leak.
But until one of those two things come through for us, we’re stuck with the maybe’s. Enjoy his snowball-y kit while you still can.
